What would you put on a charcuterie board? Inspire me!

My husband has been away with work for a few weeks so I’m planning to welcome him back home with a very chilled date night at home.

Thinking a big charcuterie board to share and wine. I’d like some ideas to make it feel a bit fancy without me going overboard and buying a gazillion things. So far I have the following ideas, but would appreciate your suggestions and ideas of what you would have.

Prosciutto and some other kind of ham or sausage
A large pork pie. Maybe a ploughman’s one
Cheese - I have some nice ones from Amsterdam and maybe Wensleydale & cranberries.. any suggestions gratefully received
Banana peppers or those little cream cheese stuffed peppers
Fruit maybe berries or grapes
Pecans. Pickles
Some kind of chutney / hummus
Crackers or bread
Some kind of white wine

thanks!

Red wine! White is not a perfect choice with cheese & meat

some fresh crusty bread

a soft cheese eg a ripe Brie or Camembert

pate?

Olives and pistachios (you can buy them ready shelled, was a revelation). Mini gherkins (I think they’re called cornichons?)

Personally I’d do crusty bread and more cold meats (salami type things) rather than a pork pie - with pork pie I’d want to go a full on ploughman's route and have celery, apple, coleslaw, chutney, Stilton etc.

I hope it goes well, it sounds lovely (and has inspired me for great food at Christmas - who wouldn’t love a festive charcuterie board?! OMG - could do a festive desserts one too with all mini puds/cakes/mince pies)

Yum, thanks @aperollingintotheweekend

I would do mini pies, a massive one will end up being very messy.

a large range of cheeses. Soft, strong, crumbly, mild, stinky, hard, cream. I would leave out blue cheese personally cos it’s disgusting lol. From a proper cheese monger.

Digestive biscuits

shloer for those like me who don’t drink booze

dried fruit. Apricots, dates, figs (fresh and dried)

coleslaw and potato salad

kimchi

a few nice breads

pate

What about those sweet pickled peppers?

mamaduckbone · 28/09/2025 21:48

I'd switch out the pork pie for a really good sausage roll and/or scotch egg from a butchers or deli.
Yes to pp idea of olives and cornichons.
Maybe some other tapas bits - sundried tomatoes or artichoke hearts in oil. Posh crisps!
Definitely some good bread to mop it all up with.
It's my favourite kind of meal.

Great ideas thank you! I have done a festive one before, not sweet though, that is a great idea you could have fun with (now I want to collect all the green and red m&m’s haha)

that’s the pickles I had in mind, cornichons, lidl do a great selection of flavoured ones. Good shout on pistachios too, I love them.

Also some veggy crudités, especially to dip in hummus if you go down that route - cherry tomatoes, cucumber, mini peppers, sugar snap peas.
Grapes to go with the cheese.

Pharazon · 28/09/2025 21:57

Saucisson, jambon de camoagne, pâté, jambon persillé, andouille, salad de museau. Accompanied by cornichons, mustard, bread, butter.

Grapes
figs
All of the cheese ☺️
Tintern cheddar
Brie
make some of those little salami roses
posh crackers of varying sizes
nuts - pistachios, walnuts
homemade bread sticks

those sun-dried tomatoes with mozzarella pearls in oil

Wine - Vinho Verde

that wine sounds lovely, will give it a go

i was thinking breadsticks too, or homemade cheese straws, but not sure if that would go with the rest of it!

Getting hungry now.. half tempted to do a trial run for myself before he returns 😅

This thread has made me want a charcuterie date night too! I’ve already got the wine haha just need the food!

You can get little bamboo tongs for if you ever do a big family charcuterie, they sell them on Amazon etc. Cute and also more hygienic 😂 not needed for date night though 😉
