Naturism beginner tips?

NCTotalledOut · 27/09/2025 08:16

Have been interested in joining a little naturist community for a while now that kids have flown the nest, does anyone have any tips or advice for a beginner? Or any recommendations?

Look on the British Naturism website and find a local group. The one I used to be a member of hired an indoor swimming pool with a steam room every weekend for about two hours. Many of our members (not me) participated in other stuff like naked rambling, often with wild swimming possibilities.

I only stopped my membership because there was a change of management at the pool and they abruptly terminated our weekly hire; I suspect the new team had moral objections. However, everything was above board. Quite a few families as well as older folk, singles and couples were members. Leches and pervs were weeded out. No pressure, no shame. I miss it.

HTH.

BTW, swimming pool temperature is most important. Too cold and your extremities go blue and small, too warm and swimming is too much like hard work! Likewise, tepid steam rooms are no good. Lots of steam, heat and reduced visibility are all musts.

@NCTotalledOut I have replied to your PM.

My partner and I are interested in trying this, is that British Naturism the best way to find out more?

TheTecknician · 08/10/2025 13:52

I don't know about the best but it seems as good as anywhere to begin.

ExpertInAbsolutelyZero · 08/10/2025 13:58

We’ll have a look at it.

ExpertInAbsolutelyZero · 09/10/2025 15:08

It comes across as a big organisation, with all the formality and central control that goes hand in hand with that. Except the swim events, they seem to be organised locally. We’re not really looking for formality.

I expect there'll be lots of tips

Is that you, Finbarr?

It appears so

Libertylawn · 09/10/2025 16:25

I don’t get it. Isn’t it just being ordinary but with your muff out?

Yes, plus boobs and bottyrùmp if you're a woman.

We finally got in touch with the nearest “swim” to us and we’re going to visit it after the new year. Christmas time is just too busy to go now, and the pool closes over Christmas anyway.

ExpertInAbsolutelyZero · 11/01/2026 22:58

We visited tonight, really enjoyed it. Everyone was so friendly and the facilities were superb. We’re definitely going back.

Dexysmidnightstroller · 15/01/2026 21:48

We have just tried a nude beach for the first time on holiday in a warm climate over Xmas/NY. Won’t bore everyone with the backstory but there were various reasons why we only tried for the first time in our early 50s.

I don’t think we want to join a club but we really enjoyed the beach. The vibe was very chilled, there were lots of ages, shapes and sizes, so I didn’t feel at all uncomfortable and DH felt the same. So recommend a nice beach to start with, no one spoke to each other though - that’s not really the etiquette- so if you’re after a more sociable experience you’ll have to join a club.

But what’s the point, I don’t get it.

Dabralor · 15/01/2026 22:09

Don’t understand the appeal. Don’t you get cold? And you have to be in close proximity to the general public’s wobbly bits. Eww.

PermanentTemporary · 15/01/2026 22:12

I’ve been to naturist beaches and a club once. It’s not really for me but I definitely appreciated the sense of equality and relaxation. If anything we all looked at each other less when there’s no clothing involved.

Same here. I don't see why the insistence of being completely in the nip. What's the practical difference between a minimal swimming costume/trunks and full-on nudiness? Nobody is saying that you have to wear full Victorian swimwear that slows you down and feels like you're pretty much swimming in your everyday clothes.

I understand that pervs and exhibitionists are very much dissuaded; yet they're the only people I can actually think of who would be so eager for everybody to be totally in the scud?!?!

hahagogomomo · 15/01/2026 22:22

I quite like swimming in the sea with nothing on but I’d never sit on the beach naked, we are all different. Quite a lot of Spanish beaches seem to be semi naturist as in fine to swim but no naked sports, fine by me. As to why,? Why not? Skin tight swimwear really hides nothing. Off up way north this summer and been told swimwear isn’t required (or even allowed)

ExpertInAbsolutelyZero · 15/01/2026 22:56

For us, we felt more free swimming with nude, there was a noticeable difference and trunks for me, costume for my good lady, felt quite constricting and clingy when we went to our local pool this week. We both prefer to swim nude now. As someone else said, there was less looking at each others bits at the nude evening.

Dexysmidnightstroller · 16/01/2026 10:53

Other cultures in Europe, Scandinavia and elsewhere are far less prudish and see nothing wrong with the human body. If it’s not for you it’s not for you, but maybe appreciate that others enjoy the sensation of swimming and sunbathing nude and aren’t bothered by nature.

On a beach in southern Europe?

An all-over tan with no marks/lines from swimwear.
