Only his second holiday overseas. He's 19 and with a friend. I'm worried about the weather, and well everything. I'm counting down the days until he comes home. Bollocks why do I get so anxious. I feel helpless. I'm slightly inebriated . His dad's so blase about it and not worried at all.

Sorry to add a new risk to your worry list…. But think about the risk that he has a more sheltered, less fulfilled and less happy life because he always did what made his mother happy.

He’s having a fab time. He’ll be fine. Have another glass of wine and toast to him!

Relax, he must be a sensible man as you would not have let him go I imagine.Even though I don't drink alcohol I like that Have some wine song that Scott Mills mentioned a lot in the summer.

I live in Punta Cana Dominican Republic. Today has been a washout with a cold front and rain over the island. It is currently only 23 degrees and it has been raining since about 4 am (now 5:25 pm) It is also supposed to rain most of tomorrow. This is very rare here, but we really needed the rain! If he is in Punta Cana, I can check up on him if you want?

Remember, if he is at a resort, they have wet weather plans... games in the lobby bar, entertainment in the theater... He will be fine. By tomorrow night this will be gone and we will be back to sun and 34 degrees . I am sitting in my dining room looking to my garden and my bouginvillias are getting a well needed soak and husband sitting on the covered patio reading a book. Life is good here rain or shine

ChloeCannotCanCan · 25/09/2025 23:20

What exactly are you worried about?

Eggybreadwithnuts · 25/09/2025 23:56

Im the same. He's my only one.

Ugh.. don't be THAT parent, OP - ruining your son's holiday by infantlising him and making his independence and freedom all about you. He won't appreciate it, and it will drive a wedge between you both.

NorthernLass2025 · 26/09/2025 00:51

So glad my parents weren't like this for goodness sake he is an adult let him go lol

Eggybreadwithnuts · 26/09/2025 01:05

As if they are adults at 19....my DS first holiday had his phone stolen, money etc. Yes they learn but 19 they are still learning life skills. OP has ever right to feel worried

I worry about my adult kids when they are traveling. I worry a lot about my kids. It’s not something I can stop although I’d love to. However, I’ve always encouraged them to travel, take the promotion, change a job if they want to, to live a full life. I only torture myself.

To this day one of my kids will ring and if I miss the call I feel anxious until I can speak to them. I will ring my own mum and she very often doesn’t answer but gets back to me at a time that’s convenient for her. Sometimes days later. I think that’s weird. Although probably very nice for her that she’s so relaxed about it all.
