Where to go for my 40th?

I'm turning 40 at the end of November, and after a pretty stressful year I really want to get away for a dew days and celebrate my birthday!

However I keep going round in circles and can't decide on where to go - I'd really appreciate any input which can help me narrow things down.

  • Ideally 3 nights away
  • Budget for 2 adults around £500 each for flights and accommodation
  • Some places I've always wanted to visit are Naples (Pompeii), Istanbul, Athens, Thessolaniki, Budapest
  • My husband and I love good food, history and having a few cocktails but won't be out clubbing! Also will not be hiring a car
  • We are in Midlands but could travel from London for the right deal

I've also been thinking about a nice UK AirBnb within an hour or 2 drive from Birmingham, but from my research it seems better value to go abroad!

If anyone can give me a steer I'd be very grateful!

I’ve heard great things about Budapest! I have heard it’s quite reasonable too, so that could fit your budget perfectly. They have an amazing spa. Out of your other options listed, I think Athens could be ideal for a city break too! Lots of history and places to see… plus amazing food.

Happy 40th for November! 🥂

Budapest will tick a lot of your boxes - history, great restaurants, good cocktail bars. They also have the thermal spa and the ruin bars. I’ve been at the end of November before and I’d highly recommend - it’ll likely come in well below your budget too!

Thanks both, Budapest is high on the list and great to hear it's highly recommended! I've seen some good deals too, so might just focus on that now!
