Wordle crisis

I’ve just discovered that my starting word, that I have used for nearly 4 years, has already been The Word. So I need a new one. And I can’t choose!

Do people have the same starter word all the time? I pick a new starter word every day!

Same I think it would get dull to use the same word every day

My word was CHAIR which came up a few days ago - couldn't believe it! I have also used ADIEU but current starter is POISE.

For me, the fun lies in using skill to solve the puzzle in as few guesses as possible? And that requires strategy!!

Sure - my strategy is to always use the same opener as it has a good mix of common consonants and vowels, and then usually to use the same second word, with a further good mix of consonants and vowels, unless the first word has given me what I think are better possibilities to get it in fewer guesses.

My dispute was with the proposition that there was “no fun” in the game if you always use the same opener.

Ah, sorry. In that case, we are in agreement. My approach is very similar to yours.

Surely the point of a starter word is to use as many high frequency letters as possible rather than to guess the actual word?
I have 4 words which i use that contain 19 letters of the alphabet between them. It means I usually get the word on the 4th or 5th attempt. I enjoy working it out. I don't want to get the solution with my first word. What's the point of that?

Wouldn't it be fun, though? Just once?

My aim is to do both. Obviously the chances of the second are very small, but that's why it's an additional challenge!

Toile is now my starter

Do you think it's a good idea that they don't recycle words?

My preferred starter word came up a while ago and I still like to use it but miss the thought I may get a lucky wordle-in-one if I do use it!

But they do recycle words.

Most solutions this week I recognise as past solutions.

A wordle in one is pointless. It's a day off the wordle. It's met with a yay, followed by a complete feeling of emptiness.

I agree about the deflation - it’s fun to get the lucky fluke guess but then you get no satisfaction from actually solving the puzzle. I didn’t realise they recycled words.
