Why do companies exist where you can’t speak to anyone?

This laat few weeks I have had a bit of a nightmare getting things rectified where the company/delivery has gone awry.

Debenhams sent the wrong item, specifically something that was a quarter of the value of the item. I notified them immediately via their whatsapp chat and email. Three weeks later, after ‘speaking’ to AI not I finally got a returns label, two weeks later I finally have a refund. No apology, just hassle from end to end.

I received a parcel, left in a very unsafe ‘safe place’ and it was stolen. Three times I was asked to send a picture of said item, eventually a human reviewed my emails and a refund is apparently on the way.

I do understand it’s cost saving but all I wanted to so was call someone but instead both companies have removed the call centres. 🤬

You’ve answered your own question. Cost.
