Can I replace my iron with a hand held steamer?

I hate ironing! Especially DS1's school shirts - men's skinny fit ones which have pleats in the back - argh!

Are hand held steamers any good? Can they be used instead of an iron? Or are they only good for travelling?

Interested to know what brand of hand held steamer actually works.
I bought one a few years ago that was hopeless, I think because the steam had cooled so much as it travelled along the long hose to the nozzle.
