How have your older teens made friends?

DD is 18 almost 19 and her closer friends have just gone off to uni leaving her feeling a bit lost. She has friends but they’re mainly boys now that the girls have gone to uni. She works part time but they’re ages 16 and up so are all at different stages.

She’s off to the pub tonight but the few girls that were going have cancelled and she’s feeling a bit flat…

Just wondering how other teens might have made connections that she could try.

Jobs in bars and restaurants are great for this. It’s hard work but you can have a good laugh and there’s lots of things to bond over, from rude customers to absolutely everything going wrong on a shift 😆

Sports.
music - bands, singing, open mic nights and karaoke nights
jobs with other teens - bars

DS was in a similar position as he’s doing an apprenticeship rather than uni.

Joining a gym and rugby club has been great for his social life.

Yes! I did say about getting a job in a bar - that’s what I did for a while. Her Dad was less keen but might be worth exploring again…

The place she works now pays really well (a cafe place in a country park) but it’s not quite right colleagues wise - her colleagues at the moment are either too old or too young.

I’ve just said to just keep going out with the people who are still around and it’ll all fall into place. Could just be my DD, but everything seems like such a big deal these days!

These are all good ideas - thank you 🙂

Is there any sport she'd like to learn / do more of. Club membership could be her Christmas present.
A bar job in a sports club would also be good.
