Sorry if this is a personal post. But, I’m currently on £37,000 a year at age 33 as a bus driver and find it absolutely shit money.

So what’s your earnings and how did you get into your job?

Residential property solicitor doing legal auditing. I earn £45k FTE but work 3 days a week. Fully remote.

Self employed, it depends. Also salary is not the only form of income for many people :) think laterally instead of just chasing a better salary.

I’m not 33 anymore but looking at a historical money calculator it was the equivalent of 41k, University housing officer educated to NVQ level 4 and a cert in higher education. DH was a senior lecturer and on the equivalent of 56k he has a Doctorate in engineering. I stepped back due to illness so never reached full potential, DH current salary is 70k

56,500 retail. No degree, slightly younger than you. Worked my way up from an entry level job but this took 10 years.

My salary isn't going to help you as its taken me about 20 years to get where I am. I probably could never drive a bus though.

But bus driver pay does seem low compared with comparable work like driving trains, HGVs or machines on building sites so with experience of driving a large vehicle it seems to me that the best way that you could increase your income would be to look into how you could get into those jobs. BIL drives a bin wagon and I'm sure he's on more than £37k.

£62,500 basic but bonus has previously tipped me just under £100k for one year, typically though with bonus my overall salary would be between £75-80k. I work in recruitment in senior operations, started as a trainee consultant 18 years ago at 21
