How does passport control work when children are non EU and parent is EU?

Probably a stupid question but ex is from an EU country and children have UK passports. He wants to take them on holiday to another country (not his one) and I'm worrying what happens at passport control. Do you just approach staff and explain the situation? Dc are 6 and 8 and the youngest has sen.

I think if you have an EU passport you are allowed in the non-EU gates but not the other way around.

They should all be able to go to the EU gate. ( But not the electronic one)

I'm the opposite way round, non-EU mum with EU daughter (4). They always send us both to the non-EU queue in Spain, never any issues as long as I've got the docs showing the relationship. In the small UK airport we fly to, UK and EU is the same queue, with a separate one for neither, so no probs there either.

You just go through the non-EU gate

I've travelled with my EU passport and 2 British children plenty of times with no issues - we just go together to the non EU queue

You all go through non eu unless directed otherwise. Always plenty of staff to advise. I had this but USA and my American passport holding dd came through non with me

What are you worried about? they will go through passport control, it doesnt really matter which gate, if they queue for the wrong one where they dont have stamps they will get send to another one. children will get passports stamped and father will not.

It's usually EU or All Passports. So they'd go in All Passports.

@rollypollymolly I was worried they would be split up.

In portugal this year 3 eu passports, 3 British ones. All went thorough EU control. I think family groups can stay together.

I'm UK, DS is EU. We fly in and out of France through non-EU queue or use the E-gates. No one has raised an eyebrow - or even asked for proof of DH's permission to fly (I often take DS alone).

Same here, we have been through the EU gates many times with at least 1 Uk passport. We were told to do it in Portugal once and since then have done it in a few EU countries.
If we have 3 EU and 1 not we usually just stick mine at the bottom of the pile and its never been an issue

DH and the rest of us were invited over to the EU lane in Portugal a few years ago
Probably helped by DS wearing a hoodie emblazoned with DH's nationality too
The DC's passports were still red, and the EU lane was empty with bored staff, while queue full of UK travellers was lengthy.

Generally DH sticks with us.

They are not going to split young kids from the parent/s.
