Overslept and late for school

I set my alarms like I always do but for some reason I didn’t wake up until one of my dc came into my room and said mummy it’s 9am!! They had overslept too. Just managed to drop them off and explained to staff and got the judgemental look! I feel so guilty, never been late before I don’t think. 😭 please tell me your stories of being late so I feel better 😭

How old are your children?

Weegieunicorn · 18/09/2025 09:42

Ach I wouldn't stress about that at all. Don't give it any headspace.

It happens to me, once or twice a year: I turn off my alarm instead of putting it on snooze, and go back to sleep. I am NOT a morning person.

Me neither. My ds1 couldn’t sleep last night worrying about his residential which is soon which is partly why we both overslept. He’s not a morning person either !

It happens, it’s OK.

You’ll feel awful but you won’t make a habit of it and the school really won’t mind unless you do it often.

I would get the kids alarm clocks as well. Even if they don't get up with them at least its a second line of defense and teaches them the time, helps them take ownership of getting up etc etc

Meh, it happens. Don’t beat yourself up about it. As long as your children’s attendance is fine otherwise and they’re not usually late then don’t worry. I’d get another alarm clock as well as using your phone alarm in the future just to be sure.

You’re imagining the judgemental look. I doubt anyone will care as it’s a one-off. No one but you will even still be thinking about it.
