Feeling so ill which in turn is not making me think straight…possible COVID

I have had the most awful bug since Friday last week, started of as the smallest irritation at the back of my throat which I put down to a bit pepper/spice from my lunch, had a bit more of a tickly throat/cough on Saturday morning and by Saturday evening felt like I had been hit by a truck. Tried to ride it out with drugs just get on with my day Sunday and Monday as started a course but on Monday afternoon I was back in bed feeling even worse and I have been there ever since, sore kidneys, magic 8 ball head/dizziness (IYKYK) upset stomach, completely congested and the most awful hacking cough which is giving no relief and the fits can come from nothing, again I’ll just feel this slight peppery irritation and a really violent involuntary need to cough which I will do until I’m retching, I have never had anything like it in my life.

Was meant to be OT today which I turned down but should be in tomorrow for and Friday for my usual work days and just not sure what to do. I’m never off work with illness, although not very far into this job, however we are very short staffed and I know me being off will be stressful for my colleagues.

I am mainly office based but work with families so there will be some kind of contact.

I'm pretty sure however horrible I’m feeling it’s viral and will pass but also wonder if Covid and do I still need to test? How do I access tests and does it really matter if I’m just feeling too rubbish to work anyway.

So many questions that I’d normally be able to work out logically but my brain not working seems to be another symptom of feeling pretty rubbish.

So to add some kind of sense to these ramblings.

Should I work, test, make a GP appointment, stop being a big wimp?!

I've just got over an awful bug similar symptoms to what you describe and so have a couple of people I know. It's rough and wiped me out for a couple of weeks, I'm exhausted and want to sleep all the time even though most of the symptoms have gone now. Still feeling dizzy and got a cough. Tested for Covid, it was negative.

Edited to add I hope you feel better soon!

I would put this down to just a run of the mill horrible bug too but it’s my taste and smell going which is throwing me.

Ive recently had a bug, which was originally uti. Ie ended up in my kidneys and I had extreme fuzziness in my brain. I still can't think straight but I'm improving.
