Thailand - where should we stay?

DH and I are planning our honeymoon and I'm struggling to find what I have in mind for our accommodation.

Half the honeymoon is going to be backpacking around Northern Vietnam, and then we want to end the trip with about 2 weeks in Thailand.

  • One week somewhere cute/cheap/cheerful but still lovely, where we can visit night markets, food markets etc
  • One week fancy/luxury where we can lounge by the beach/pool sipping cocktails and reading books

We've got our eye on the Krabi area because we've been there before and loved it, but in my mind I'm picturing a lovely bungalow park in nature with an outdoor bathroom, private terrace, beautiful view on the limestone cliffs.. and I can't find it. There are a few places but they're mainly big modern hotels. We loved Railay last time we went.

Has anyone stayed somewhere fab they'd recommend? Budget around 800 max for the week.

Chang Mai for the walking night market and lots of lovely temples at a more relaxed pace than Bangkok.

Sorry, should've said - we've done all that! Spent 2 months travelling around and as much as we love the North, we want to stick to the South for the beaches for the honeymoon.

We stayed Pimalai on Koh Lanta (easy travel from Krabi). It's a big hotel but loads of privacy, beautiful views, and you're walking distance to a village, lots of bars etc as well as the hotel facilities. Could be in budget depending on when you're going - seems to average around £200 per night but £130ish in low season and a lot more in high. Definitely recommend!

The Sarojin hotel is really special. You have to do their day boat trip snorkelling, it’s just insane.
