Twice tonight I’ve been woken up by my husband calling my name..except he’s fast asleep. Wtf?!

I sometimes wake up by hearing someone knock on my bedroom door or front door but no one is there and I live on my own. For me I think it times when I’m stressed with work. That’s the reason I tell myself!! It does freak me out tbh

I talk in my sleep and say my partners name sometimes too, he’s probabaly just dreaming.

It’s called, hilariously, exploding head syndrome. I had it a lot at university. In my case either someone banging on my door in accommodation, or once I’d moved to a student house, the doorbell going

I sometimes get woken up thinking I can hear one one of my children calling 'Mum'. They are all grown and live in their own homes. Sometimes in their childhood voice and sometimes in the voice they have now. I think it must be because I worry about them. They are all okay - I think it's my worry on a deeper level.

I also got this a lot at university. I still sometimes get It if I’m sleeping somewhere new like a hotel.

Thanks for that @Dolphinnoises.

I never knew it had a name. An absolutely brilliant name actually!

GlassofRosePorfavor · 15/09/2025 07:04

Me too @ClassicStripe its very unsettling!

mind you if im distracted in Asda or anywhere really and I hear mum my
body just responds I can't really explain it. My breasts also respond to small baby cries! I am in the depths of menopause and I think it has something to do with it. All the hormones flying about! Or the decline 😂

Quite often I hear my phone ping with a text message that wakes me up (don’t silence it as DC live away) check phone and no message!

It’s the poltergeist in the corner.

I have heard it called hypnagogic hallucinations - very common and harmless (though the more florid type can be upsetting). They always occur in between sleeping and waking. For years I got these every night as I fell asleep and I started to see it as 'oh great, I'm dropping off'.
