Help me find an outfit for Labour Party Conference!

I’m there for work in a couple of weeks.

Lots of people wear Labour red but I am quite pale so it washes me out if I wear it fully but I do like the colour.

What can I wear for the Labour Party Conference. I want an outfit that screams “I take my work seriously but I’m also not a total lefty”

Are you attending only as a business bystander? If so I’d have thought usual black/navy/grey office wear would do.

If you’re going as a delegate or member of some sort then sackcloth and ashes would give out that necessary ‘I know I did wrong by supporting Labour but I’m repentant’ vibe that’s catching on now.

lol. I’m formally representing my workplace at a few events. I’m not a Labour Party member

I don't see why, especially if you aren't a Labour party representative, you would feel the need to wear red.
By all means avoid the other typical party colours- tory blue for instance - but as pp suggests normal office type wear would be suitable.

ItWasTheBabycham · 14/09/2025 17:46

Office clothes in non-bright colours that suit you would be best

GloryFades · 14/09/2025 17:47

I wouldn’t even avoid Tory Blue - I’m always surprised how many front benchers in the old government wore yellow or red ties in Parliament despite them being colours obviously associated with political opponents.

I’d just go business smart, probably trousers blouse and a blazer.

Head to toe turquoise?

<innocent>

Seriously I think normal business wear is just fine, a dress plus blazer and smart flats or low heels or similar.

I’ve been to tonnes of them. What do you normally wear for work? Wear comfortable shoes as there are never enough seats. Will you be at a stand taking to people, or taking part in a panel?

Latenightreader · 15/09/2025 11:57

I've been a few times - normal office wear if you are working on a stall. Quite a few people will be wearing work branded wear (charities, unions etc) but if you don't have that just go with something smart and comfortable (and really comfortable shoes).
