Do you know Newcastle railway station ?

I'm coming to Newcastle and need to change there for Sunderland .Is it the Metro for the rest of the journey and is that station within the Newcastle one or is it further away ?
I ask because I will have an elderly person with me and they would struggle with the walk . How long slow walking would it take ? Is it easy to find as a first time visitor ?
Thank you in anticipation .

The Metro Station is in Central Station (Newcastle train station).

Some train (rather than metro) services run between Newcastle and Sunderland. Look at the LNER website.

It's very quick to walk between the two

The metro is within the train station, down two floors but there are some overground services to Sunderland so check what your ticket says.

You can do metro which is underneath or some trains stop at Sunderland too.

You could book passenger assistance

Also you can request assistance and they will use one of the little trucks like at the airport? I ended up flying into Newcastle after the air traffic madness a few years ago. The staff in Newcastle are some of the friendliest I've met
