Who are these people?

In simple terms, who are the Nylands? They popped up on my Facebook feed a week or so ago and curiosity got the better of me and I clicked on the post. Since they they keep popping up and there seem to be a lot of family members linked to the main couple.
So my question is, who are these people? What do they actually do other than eat out and shop? Is this how they earn money, and how does that even work, as it doesn't seem that the couple go to work (though Lauren would be on maternity) but Jamie never mentions a job in what I have seen (though Nanny Nylands does).

I am not sure even why I am that interested other than a FOMO on something.

I’ve not heard of them, are they influencers or something?

HelloHattie · 13/09/2025 20:47

Big Tiktokkers. Making loads of money entertaining people by sharing their entire life. That’s their job. They get paid for posting and paid per view. Lots of freebies too.

Ah thanks. I don't have Tik Tok so never seen them before til they popped up on Facebook one day and it intrigued me as to how they actually earn a living writing drivel on Facebook.

I've never heard of the Nylands and I don't use Tiktok.

I can't believe how Tiktok has become such a part of a lot of people's lives when it was mocked and derided when it first came on the scene.

I went in The Factory shop in my town when I was killing time the other day. I haven't been in for at least a year. And the first thing I saw was a big display of something or other with a big sign on it " as advertised on Tiktok". I nearly walked out at that point . Then they played some advertising speil over the audio system howThe factory shop had teamed up with Tiktok.
I.did leave at that point.
Strange isn't it how some advertising campaigns actually deter some customers rather than encouraging them.

@Shortdaysalready The Works always has a TikTok/BookTok section that annoys me too but the books are always really good 😅

I've not been in The Works for a long time either. Thanks for the warning!

The Nylands are strangely addictive - yes they literally just shop and eat ("what's for dinner my loverrrrrr"). I must say they have very sweet children and seem like a nice couple. They have just bought a fabulous new house and buy expensive things continuously and I think the money does all come from social media. I can't help but be impressed but I don't really get it either.

I mean it's amazing they have bought that house just through what seems to be money that is made on Tik Tok/social media. I genuinely wondered if I had missed something and they were famous in some other way.
I guess this is why kids feel they don't have to get a job though as they can just make money an 'easy' way.
I do find it bizarre how engaged people are with the posts which are the same thing each day/on rotation 'good morning...don't be shy say it back' and the constant eating out or going to the shops.
It does baffle me though that these youngsters don't work (or at least in a normal job) yet it sounded like Nanny Nyland does go out to work! Though maybe I am missing something and she doesn't either.
I don't know whether I want to follow to find out more or block 😂

Lauren did work pre-baby in a normal job. They seem to be a fairly ordinary family, it's just that Jamie's "job" is social media (it's him making all the TikToks etc.). So they are making a nice income from that, but it doesn't automatically mean that he is supporting other family members so they all have normal jobs too.

I know it seems like easy money/money for nothing, but as you rightly point out OP, many youngsters will seek to emulate them and fail. The Nylands have found a formula that has us all transfixed and are paid accordingly.

As you can tell, it's far too late for me but I would block and run OP 😂

They appear on my Facebook feed and despite not interacting with the posts they still appear as do the extended family. It’s gross the way they film their little girl, it is very obvious that they coach her in what to do beforehand. Their life seems so boring too, literally going to shopping most days to the same shops again and again,

I know I feel like I am being sucked into following them as if they are like a freak show of the past as part of me wonders why people follow them. It's a bit like reality TV, I find it fascinating what some people find interesting in people that really don't seem that interesting at all.
It's bizarre reading the comments they get, which they rarely reply to yet so many people write back to them!
I think I need to block before I do become obsessed 😂

Yes that's what I find fascinating though! How do they get so many comments and followers from mundane stuff. Why are people viewing this? Why am I now looking at their posts too also viewing them and interested enough to make a post on here about it?!!
I do find it kind of weird how they use their daughter to front this...and how obsessed people are with her 'impeccable manners' and telling them to hurry up and get her the kitten (I assume they are buying her one?). Actually it's kind of worrying who is seeing these images and what they do with them (as well as the Nylands main page I have had another pop up which I am not sure is them or not, which is disturbing if someone is taking the photos they have posted previously and then using them themselves).

I have a bit of a theory (now you’ve got me thinking about this OP) and it’s because they present this nice, cosy domesticity and welcome you into it. It’s not real, it’s an idealised version of family life, albeit in an ordinary sort of way. So it appeals to anyone a bit lonely, or struggling with a chaotic young family (i.e. most people with a young family, including almost certainly the Nylands themselves), or wistful empty nesters. There’s something there for lots of people with time to scroll online of an evening on the sofa.

I suppose they are exploiting their daughter somewhat, but she's clearly having fun making the videos. And it wouldn't work without the children.

I just found this thread by searching as the whole thing intrigues me too. They popped up recently on Facebook and since then I am inundated with the whole family. They are just so awful, the mother and brother are not so bad but Jamie gives me the absolute creeps!

treeowl · 12/02/2026 15:36

I’m confused why people would watch people living ordinary lives? I just don’t get it.
