Adding teen to car insurance

My dd has passed her driving test and I'm going through the pain of looking for insurance so that she can drive my car as a named driver, as I will still drive it the most (hopefully!).

My current insurer has given me an extortionate quote and has said they can't offer a telematics policy (no idea why). Another insurer has offered a telematics policy at a more reasonable price, but this appears to mean that I, as the main driver, would be the person whose driving would be monitored, not dd. So I'd need an app on my phone etc etc. Has anyone actually done this, and are there any downsides? I'm a cautious driver so don't have any worries about being penalised for dangerous driving, but don't want to cancel my existing insurance only to find I've taken on something that has unexpected complications.
TIA

Have you considered temporary insurance if she isn't driving it regularly?
As long as you have a main policy you can book by the day, week even hour.

Might be more cost effective if she doesn't drive much & is going away to University soon or something.

Yes, I've looked at temporary but she's likely to be driving at least a couple of days/week over the next year so I'm not sure how practical it will be.
