The joy of a cancelled night out!

I confess up front I am old.

A couple of weeks ago DH suggested going out this Friday (today) to see a band playing locally. I said ok, could be fun, we don’t get out much.

Until I realised the following:
We’re a bit skint atm, entrance fee plus drinks means likely a £50 spend
I’ve got a family event tomorrow which I have to travel for, it will be tiring and emotional
The telly is really good on Friday night!
I would have to make myself look presentable which takes a lot longer than it used to when I was 20.

He came home tonight knackered with a headache and asked if I minded if we didn’t go. I may have done a little dance of relief!

tell me I’m not alone..

Sometimes it's deflating
Sometimes it's relief dancing

My favourite feeling!
I always tell people I might struggle to get a sitter, partner working and parents are getting on.

in truth im very happy in my pjs watching the soaps and gogglebox with a glass of wine and pickled onion monster munch 🙌🏻

JOMO opposite of FOMO 🥳

Allthebestaregone · 12/09/2025 19:52

You are not alone OP.
I could almost feel your relief, even though it's not nice your DH has a headache, but yes get cozy on the sofa in front of the TV, with hot chocolate and a biccy, and enjoy the reprieve!

I always pretend to be disappointed by cancelled nights/days out, and say, "...but we can always go again at some other point!" (which helps me to disguise the Cheshire grin on my face at the time).

I LOVE it when things get cancelled. When I come home from work (especially at the end of the week), I just want to eat, bathe, put my pyjamas on and relax. I don't want to have to think about dusting off my non-work clothes and taming the mane is too much like hard work!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 12/09/2025 20:04

I forgot to add... enjoy your night off, OP!

LovesToWalk · 12/09/2025 20:04

I’ve found my people!

Love JOMO!

Friday nights at home are one of the simple joys in life.

DrCoconut · 12/09/2025 20:10

I don't really enjoy nights out any more. Bands are always too loud and the venues are crowded. Pubs are overpriced and boring. Tonight I am sharing my evening with a bag of aldi paprika crisps and Chicago med on Amazon. Living the dream and all that.

bettyfloormop · 12/09/2025 21:01

Yes completely relate OP! I really struggle to be bothered to do anything on a Friday after a lonnnng week at work apart from come home, eat dinner and watch something on Netflix with a large g&t!

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 12/09/2025 22:33

I’ve watched all the good telly, eaten homemade soup and crusty bread and now I’m going to bed with a book. Perfect Friday night 😆

It sounds well timed!!
I generally love nights out but mine are much more sedate these days, neither dh nor I would suggest a gig (I go with friends because he’s over the faff of watching live music and I still enjoy it but do see his point of view, loud, crowds, inconvenient locations and needing to leave early to travel back home) but I often have dinner dates with friends or dh that I look forward to.
i like to have one weekend evening of doing something and then one at home.
