How do people become wealthy?

Lifeisntnotunfair · 12/09/2025 15:15

I currently have two part time jobs, both working under the same people but different areas. One is 3 days a week, the other is a day every week or so.
I really want to work towards something that will bring in lots of money, and be an affluent job that I can be proud of, and respected for.
I am happy to do a bachelors degree in any subject.

In the background as in, work towards a career no whilst working my two jobs. Of course once I am qualified I will have to rethink

What salary would make you feel wealthy?

I would do a business degree and at the same time, really start planning to expand your high-end cleaning business. Start charging premium rates. Have very high standards. I think it could really fly (and you’ll become wealthy)

It just sort of happens - doesn't it? 🤔

Self employed entrepreneur
Innovative inventor
Sports or media star ( premier league player or Oscar winner)
Euro lottery winner
Marry well
Inherit (check your extended family tree)
Stocks and shares

If you mean financially solvent, work hard, go for promotions.Mix in the right circles to be open to lucrative employment opportunities.

Great suggestion. In my experience rich people often (not always) feel reassured by paying more, they feel they must be getting something better!

Very difficult these days to become wealthy through your job/wage OP. Most wealthy people have gifted and/or inherited wealth or won the lottery! There are of course boomers (who due to being born at the right time) are wealthy on basic jobs and house buying - but for most and certainly those under 40 it’s gifted, won or married into wealth.

The majority of wealthy people come from money &/or have a safety net.

Just work hard, save and buy property. That’s how my working class peer group have managed to do ok, retire early and set their kids up.

Much harder to buy property without some form of help today though & less social housing.

If you have specialist cleaning experience your best chance is likely related to that for high end clients who can afford to pay for quality and discretion.

Plus if you started an agency and employed good cleaners, you could make money without having to do the work yourself.

Op you need to change your mind set, you are not stuck with this family you are allowed to leave.

All you are doing is making them richer, they own the properties you clean to a high standard, they take the profits, guaranteed they couldn't or wouldn't last long if people walked into a shit hole.

The most sensible thing to do is set up as cleaner yourself, plenty of people want cleaners and are willing to pay a decent price.
In time you build up to having staff, though this will come with plenty of headaches.

Sorry didn't mean to do it twice.

BreakingBroken · 12/09/2025 19:26

how do people become wealthy? @MinniemouseDisney has a decent list.
i would start with a tiny investment, one stock one share a month. choose mainly some classic stocks and occasionally something more long term see where it goes.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 12/09/2025 19:58

Assuming you have no debt apart from a mortgage and have an emergency fund of 3 months living expenses, 6 -12 months if going self employed, building wealth means investing not spending on depreciating assets like cars. Depending on how old you are you need to start saving for retirement at least 10% preferably 15%of income, then start saving into an ISA so you can buy your next car etc for cash , after that you need to invest in the markets you can use you tube like Rebel finance or a stocks and shares ISA. You need an intentional budget, so you spend on what's important to you and be frugal on the stuff that's not.
It's hard to become wealthy as an employee but it's much easier to become financially secure as a first goal always live as far below your means as practical without deprivation of yourself. Sometimes being very frugal for a year or two gives you a jumpstart.

You won’t get there working part time, however lovely your employer is.
