Dd turns 18 next month and I’m looking for inspiration what to buy her. She has some smallish presents on her wishlist, which I’ll get her (to do with her hobby), but I’d like to give her something a bit more special. Not too expensive though as we’ve also paid a chunk towards an expensive school trip so funds are running a bit low…love to hear what you bought if it was well received 😊

socks1107 · 11/09/2025 22:13

A charm bracelet with a couple of charms. I usually get a new charm every year for her birthday so good for gift ideas going forward too

My oldest DD got an oak memory box/chest with a hidden compartment and her initial painted on the lid. She still uses it now - she's 37 to store her special cards, etc in. My middle DD got a sword! And I'm ashamed to say that I can't remember what my youngest DD received - I suspect it was jewellery.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/09/2025 22:16

A cat.
That's what she asked for so that's what she got.

He was gorgeous. Toby was responsible for teaching me that cats are amazing.

GoodVibesHere · 11/09/2025 22:17

A necklace with her birth stone pendant

Tiuriwiththewhiteshield · 11/09/2025 22:19

Thank you, some good ideas. Love the sword but not sure she’d go for that 😅
I’d thought about jewellery but she doesn’t really wear any. A watch might work actually, hadn’t thought of that.

mine asked for some nice flowering plants - I got her a couple of orchids and pots for them. They stayed in bloom 6 months with minimal care and flowered again later. (She didn’t take them to uni, they’re still alive).
I’d have liked to get her something like jewellery but it’s just not her thing.

TheFallenMadonna · 11/09/2025 22:28

Ooh - we gave our DD a sword too!

TheFallenMadonna · 11/09/2025 22:30

Our son, we gave some antique globes. Niche interests...

I got my DS a watch in an understated style I knew he'd like, went down very well - he really appreciated that I got a style that I knew he'd like. It was about £80, so affordable for me.

Also money for a holiday with friends.

Arran2024 · 11/09/2025 22:32

One got a watch, the other got a Swarovski figurine ( both their choices)

PrincessOfPreschool · 11/09/2025 22:34

For my twins' 18th I'm planning an album like 'This is your life' and try to take pics of schoolwork, artwork, certificates etc that I've kept, to go in the album. Loads of work but I'm sure they'll love it.

PandaG · 11/09/2025 22:35

A journalling Bible to take to university - she has a strong faith and is very arty so this surprise was well received. Then jewellery that she chose once she knew what she wanted (ended up being matching set of white gold necklace and earrings with funds from her 18th and 21st)

overwork · 11/09/2025 22:36

I got 18 little presents wrapped up with little messages, some were small like a lip balm and some were bigger like earrings. I remember being so surprised that someone would make that much effort for my birthday

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/09/2025 22:40

I commissioned a piece of jewellery for her, it was a gold necklace and the jeweller used gold from my nans wedding ring. It cost around £200 which I didn’t think was too bad.

I also got her theatre tickets for a show and a few other smaller bits.

pinkpony88 · 11/09/2025 22:41

Enjoying reading these but confused by the swords? Is that a thing? Or did they do fencing? 😬

MerylSqueak · 11/09/2025 22:45

I'm getting my DD a Kitchen Aid. It's a dream come true for her. She just can't decide the colour. 🙂

The4teddybears · 11/09/2025 22:51

A set of 3 nice red suitcases.

They’ve been well used .

Belshels · 12/09/2025 03:06

My DD is 18 next week. Got her a Fitbit and hair extensions. Her bf seems to have become the buyer of jewelry. I am also making her a photobook (from Photobox.com) of her milestones and highlights of her 18 years, it's quite a challenge though as we have so many photos!

cuttinganotheronion · 12/09/2025 06:55

A necklace and a photobook with pictures from birth to 18. She loved it and took it to uni with her

Lucyweeks · 12/09/2025 07:00

My DD had limited edition doc Martin's for her 18th and for her 21st a rose gold and pink topaz ring.

GreenSedan · 12/09/2025 07:02

An interrail ticket and a flight home at the end. Plus other bits and pieces.

growinguptobreakingdown · 12/09/2025 07:03

I did a photobox album for her. From birth to 18 .She loves it and will take it to university. It has all our holidays, Christmases, family, friends, prom.It was quite emotional putting it together.
A silver birth stone necklace, lego flower and headphones were extras.
