Don't your council have this information available online? Ours do... my mum's is even better, they send text alerts!

Ours is in an app and notifications can be set up..... godsend because we have blue, black, green, purple, brown and food and its not a standard rota. Some weeks its just green, others is blue and green etc.

Evening/ night/ early morning if I’ve happened to forget!!

I wish my council did this - but we still can't pay council tax online, so I think text alerts a bit too beyond them at the moment! But my mum's council does the exact same thing as yours and she loves it.

After 7pm the night before. Actual time varies with what we're doing on that night.

SmoothOperatorCarlosSainz · 10/09/2025 18:00

General waste night before and recycling by 9am on the day

Alltheyearround · 10/09/2025 18:05

Night before. Just reminded teenage DS to do it when he gets home from his evening activity at around 9ish. Recycling Day is tomorrow. The bin men come for it at around 7am. No way I'm dashing out at 6.30am.

The council only really moan if we don't all get bins back in our yards after collection. Narrow pavements and lots of bins so I can see their point.

OhNoNotSusan · 10/09/2025 18:05

i did the green bin on monday morning at 5.45 am, i remember once i got into bed

That is very committed citizenship!

Evening before

AffIt · 10/09/2025 18:11

Ideally - before it gets dark the night before.

Realistically - at about 11pm because I've just fucking remembered.

We can, to an extent, play 'bin roulette' with the recycling / glass / ordinary bins - might be 8am, might be 4pm - but the food recycling is ALWAYS collected at 4am, so there is no wiggle room there.

PennySweeet · 10/09/2025 18:15

About 9pm the night before.

Silverbirchleaf · 10/09/2025 18:19

Evening before.

bugalugs45 · 10/09/2025 18:37

We don’t have wheelie bins so I put black sack on street around 6.30/ 7am , otherwise the foxes rip them to pieces .

CrushingOnRubies · 10/09/2025 20:16

Evening before around 6:30pm. I have choir and I don’t want to be faffing with it when I get back. But want to have tea so that left overs bin and any recycling from that are accounted for

ACynicalDad · 10/09/2025 20:18

I have a silent alarm at 9pm, but i often do it when i collect kids at 3.

Zempy · 10/09/2025 20:30

About 6am when I get up.

SabreIsMyFave · 10/09/2025 20:35

Anything between 4pm and 8pm the day before ... They come between 7.30am and 9.30am, and as I have no intention of getting up at 7am to put the bins out, I put them out the afternoon/evening before.

Pretty much 2 out of 3 people in my road of 36 homes put them out the afternoon or evening before. We have wide pavements, so they don't get in anyone's way. There's still 60% of the pavement left even with the bins on there, as long as you push them against the fence or hedge.

GingerPaste · 10/09/2025 20:39

The afternoon or evening before.

Rendering · 10/09/2025 20:40

When I hear it coming down the road

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 10/09/2025 20:47

Generally late afternoon or early evening the previous day. DH does ours and they were out quite early today as he remembered without me reminding.

BootsandCatss · 10/09/2025 20:49

Whenever I hear my neighbour put his out

AnotherNaCha · 10/09/2025 20:52

Bin night (tonight) is my worst night. It’s recycling too but you’ve got to get the right week. I leave it til the last moment then dash out in my pjs and feel a huge sesame of relief when it’s done. I really should start doing it of a daytime

Hazelforever · 10/09/2025 20:52

Around 7pm the evening before.
Or, if you are my neighbours, exactly midnight just as I've drifted off to sleep they bang their dustbins around right outside my window 🙄.
