As always it depends on how you weight those priorities.

Also define ‘close’ to an airport. Define ‘nice’ garden.

Maybe somewhere like Wokingham. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/166630229#/?channel=RES_BUY I don’t love this house - bad case of the 2010s grey disease, though that’s fixable. I also don’t massively love Wokingham itself, but I know lots of people living a good life there. And not sure if half an hour from Heathrow is close enough? I was starting in Windsor which has nicer shopping but the flight path is really noisy there and 5 bed detached is unlikely to happen for that price.

This would be far preferable to me. But it’s a village not a city, and it’s a lot further from an airport.

somewhere like this, out of the way, close to all the main roads out to Bristol, London, Cardiff ect. Quite location. But the city life isn’t for me anyway!

If you wanted Windsor, plenty of space to extend this to make 5 bedrooms

Scotland on course! Lovely places within 30 mins of Edinburgh where you’ll get tons for your money.

different school system though if the OP already has kids of school age, and higher tax rates for "higher" earners

Norfolk is nice and you could be close to Norwich for airport and shops.
