Evenings/weekends telly etc with kids

my kids are at an age now (9&11) where they just want to play Minecraft or watch YouTube. We allow them both 1.5 hours a day of screen time to do either of these things in the week and probs about 3 hours a day at weekends if we don’t have plans. Our issue is that we have always been adamant that all screen time is done on the communal big telly in our kitchen diner. But this means I now have to listen to awful gamers on YouTube every evening and weekend. And I can’t join in with it or watch with them (the initial point of the big screen plan) as it’s just so awful! Should I give up the big screen and get iPads? Or limit YouTube? What is/was your screen strategy for kids of this age?

We were similar at that age. I got my kids gaming headphones so I didn't have to listen to their friends. If your kids are still content to use one big tv, such it up for as long as you can. Soon they will need laptops for school work and you won't see them again!!

We limit YouTube.

Do they do any actual gaming themselves? I find I can tolerate Minecraft.

They do like Minecraft and Roblox. We’re going to try limiting YouTube to an hour max per day. And then letting them game for a hour. Does that sound too much?
