Should I get a landline or not?

Just going through the process of getting a new house. Been living somewhere the last few years where there was no possibility of a landline, we managed fine with our mobiles. But this is hopefully our forever home, so do you think we should get one or are they outdated now?

No don't get one. My daughter pulled it out due to frustration and not enjoying taking other peoples calls. Don't miss it but am still paying for it.

No point these days. Landline infrastructure is also being changed to digital, so it's not even a "safe" back up anymore as it won't work in power cuts etc once they change over as your home phone will work via an internet router that needs a power supply! The old "pulse tone" landlines would continue to work in power cuts as the power for the phone came down the telephone line from the exchange. Lots of people have kept their landlines for this peace of mind, but once their area has gone digital, there's simply no benefit at all,

Theres no point, it's being switched off

OK, probably we won't bother then. Although it is not ideal to be totally reliant on the Internet connection, but it seems like soon we won't have much choice anyway.

I remember when buying a sofa on interest free credit a few years ago, the sales assistant said to make sure we put down our landline number, as to have a landline apparently makes you more credit worthy, but maybe this is no longer the case.

I have one because mobile reception in my house is poor.

Haven’t had a landline since 2014 or so. We moved houses like you to somewhere that had never had a landline put in (1930s house, how odd) and the nearest line to connect into was like a mile away. It was a rental so we weren’t paying for that to be installed. And since then we’ve just never used one. We bought our house a few years ago now and didn’t even think to set it up, though I think there is one put in here.

We haven’t had one for years, don’t miss it all

I only have it as I have 2 elderly relatives who will not call my mobile. Calls on this phone are either one of these relatives or scam calls.

We have one (full fibre). Comes as part of our package so costs no more.
Is handy as my OH often forgets to turn their phone on or leaves it upstairs so means I can ring the house instead.😁
