I am 48 overweight unfit and disorganised.

if I carry on I will be a right state at 50!

here is my plan - posting for accountability!

-replace wine habit with exercise. Plan to start couch to 5k and buy some nice running gear off Vinted to motivate
-declutter house and maintain
-consider getting cleaner as work long hours
-cook more healthy meals and get dc involved- look into gousto etc
-get some weights and do some exercises for bingo wings. Ds will also like to do some gentle weight training so look for you tube vids to maybe do together
-watch more educational nice things as a family eg david Attenborough rather than doom scrolling or wasting time on you tube
-read more
-get dc more involved in family chores
-sort out finances - use comparison sites for bills, review subscriptions- we have way too many we don’t use
-plan fun events/ evenings out/ weekend s away

that will do for a start!

i am off to get a nice planner to put my goals in and will keep you posted!

Might be an idea to tackle one thing at a time OP so you don't get overwhelmed. If you can enlist support from those around you as you tackle that thing, it will be much easier to have everybody inboard.
Never feel ashamed to outsource help either, eg cleaner, food box etc.

This. Start with the exercise, then move on to decluttering. These will make the most difference to how you feel.

I’m the same as you, OP — 48, overweight and house need dramatic decluttering. All your goals are mine too. I used to be very minimalist but we stopped having a weekly cleaner during Covid and then it all slid south (full time job, kid, grumpy and messy workaholic husband). DD is now settled in secondary school and DH has a new job so I have mentally earmarked this academic year for focusing on me and doing a bit of life renovation!

Need to:
— join gym, go on diet, possibly WLI (still considering)
— declutter and renovate house
— change and refresh my work practices so I’m organised for this year
— I’m going to radically change how I do Christmas. It’s too busy/crowded/stressful/expensive and I’d like to simplify it so I’m doing less and enjoying it more.
— generally need a big clear out and life refresh!

Exact same goals here OP!

  • I’ve just finished week 3 of c25k - have done it before but doing 2/3 runs with a friend this time and we’re hoping to do regular parkruns and work up to 10k
  • just done a big declutter and put summer stuff in the loft. Feels good!
  • need to cook more and eat together as a family more
  • love the Attenborough goal - also getting the kids into GBBO and can’t wait for Strictly
  • need to start doing weights

Deffo recommend a couch to 5k buddy as it’s such a different experience this time round! I too need to get some weights and my oldest would use them too.

I have many of the same goals.

We started the decluttering already with a two day marathon sort/clean of ds3's bedroom (age 8) a couple of weeks ago. It's had got so bad in the last few months, there wasn't much floor space left 😳 Got rid of about five black bags of stuff, put new storage in and went through everything, including inside the wardrobe...every piece of lego, every nerf bullet, every tiny plastic whatever now has a neat home.

It's such a good feeling when it's done! (internally that is...externally, dh put his knee out after kneeling for so many hours sorting piles of lego and mini figures and my back took about a week to recover 😂).

Update from me. I was a bit too optimistic but I have made small steps
So far-
Cleared 10 bin bags from the loft to charity
implemented a chore chart to get dc helping more
have been using a face led mask three times a week
have switched electricity and gas provider to save money

have failed so far on the exercise and alcohol front but will prioritise next week

Also wanted to recommend Anglo doorstep collections charity which comes and collects from outside your door. Great for getting things out of the house!

Anyone want to join in!? Today I have listed 20 things on Vinted and if they haven’t sold by next week I will send to charity. Going up deep clean the bathrooms and watch some documentaries later whilst making a roast and a crumble with dc

Well done @sept2025

I’d love to join in. Major declutter needed here after various life challenges meant the house got very neglected. I’ve been putting things on Vinted but I hate taking things to the Inpost box so I should probably just charity shop the lot!

My goal today is to put away all clean clothes and declutter my desk.

Piggypiggyoinkoink · 12/10/2025 11:00

It sounds like you’re making progress, well done! Can I join please? Aiming to:

  1. Get fitter - starting by setting up and using a walk pad for 15 mins daily (with the aim of upping to 30 mins eventually)
  2. Get stronger - restart the weight training program my PT put together for me the week before she went on maternity, and eventually get up to 3x a week
  3. Declutter and reorganise the house - starting with the room where the exercise equipment has gathered
  4. Get a grip on finances
  5. Stop doom scrolling

Today I am aiming to put away the clean clothes and sort the exercise equipment room, and put together a plan for the week

Welcome everyone! I sold 5 items on Vinted and have posted them already. Also spent some quality time this afternoon playing ticket to ride as a family rather than doom scrolling!
