Going to Tesco in an hour - Lentil question!

I'm trying to eat cleaner. I love a salad for work but I'm bored with my usual and any that catch my eye pre-packaged in supermarkets seem to have lentils...

But what do I buy?? There's way too much choice as I'm usually quite a boring eater!

For a salad you need lentils that still have their skins on: Puy or Green / Vertes.

Dried ones cook quite quickly, simmer in a saucepan, or use ready cooked in a pouch. Up to you.

Red lentils turn to mush (dhal!) when cooked.

Tinned beans also work well in salads: cannellini, haricot, flageolet for example.

Puy lentils are lovely in a salad, but I haven’t made them myself.

Do you just want lentils for salad or for dhal too? Chana or red lentils (or a mix of both) are lovely in a dhal.

You can buy tinned green lentils too, I used them yesterday in a veggie lasagne with aubergines.

The Merchant Gourmet Puy and Green lentils in a pouch are lovely, you can mix them into a salad straight out of the pouch. I also add them to roast veg in the oven for a quick meal

Absolute superstars! Puy lentils it is.

Will buy a pouch if I can - do you add anything if you do cook your own?

Thanks everyone ☺️

If you can splash out a bit, the bold beans chickpeas are amazing and perfectly seasoned for salads. They are 3 quid something a jar, but I can stretch a jar through 3 days of lunches.

Puy lentils, sun dried tomatoes and feta, sprinkled with fresh mint leaves.

Food of the Gods.

Late for today but green lentils, shallots finely chopped, zest and juice of a lemon, pancetta cooked, goats cheese and mixed salad leaves finished with olive oil is really good
