Niece is turning 21.We earn the same, I gave her a “good” 18th present. She clearly liked it on social media. She didn’t thank me formally and theres never personal thanks for Christmas gifts etc.I don’t mind because I’m pleased she liked her 18th present and it’s good to keep family ties strong.
My DS turned 21 and although apparently theres is a gift from them even months later nothing has arrived.
So the dilemma! I have a really decent bottle of just released perfume given complimentary as part of my job . I would quite like it myself ( love a freebie). But it’s also perfect for a 21st.

Typically,I know they will give DS his 21st present (7 months after the actual day ) just before hers. So I will look pedantic if I give DN nothing.
Do I give her the gift that cost nothing ( but I quite fancy) or spend more on something else? Or be a twat and say it’s coming and give her something 7 months later too

NB. won’t do the last one.

I’d buy her something else and keep the perfume for yourself.

The perfume is £100 worth. So a really nice gift that costs me nothing financially.
Versus paying £20 plus for a gift for someone who is essentially won’t care unless I get it spot on. Arrggghhh.

Keep the perfume. She might not even like it anyway, whereas you do! Buy her something else, but don't spend a fortune. Lots of sales still on. You could buy her a piece of nice everyday jewellery and no one would know how much you spent.

If you like the perfume keep it because she might not let me it anyway. Buy your niece something else.
