Seeing a friend tomorrow whose mum recently passed away. Id like to take her a bag of nice M&S food bits - any recommendations? I so far have good coffee, chocolates and fancy jam!

What a sweet thought. Florentines. Chutney and crackers.

I try and stick to a theme so it doesn't seem like a bag of random stuff - so did a cream tea theme, short bread, nice scones, clotted cream, strawberries and teabags.

Could go savory as it's autumn with cheese scones, chutney, apples and cheddar.

Their super-cheesy cheese biscuits would be a hit with me. You don’t get very many in a pack, though 🙁.

Their own jaffa cakes. They have dark chocolate and standard orange flavour, plus lemon and lime and sometimes others. They are delicious.

I would say limit the amount of fresh food, as it could go off before she has a chance to eat it.

Their speciality honeys are very nice. Snacky savoury biscuits are lovely. Cheese scones also delish.

I do concur with others that you might need a theme.

Cafe curls
Danish shortbread biscuits that are partially covered in chocolate

Oh the chocolate covered custard cream biscuits are to die for , really moreish .

They have a knock off of Tony’s called CHOC. The Orange one is SO nice.

EchoedSilence · 06/09/2025 20:07

I don't think you need a theme. It's nice to get a selection of different treats. I recommend the knock off Walnut whips.

How thoughtful. Lovely kind gesture.
if be really pleased if a friend did this for me.

My DH is absolutely obsessed with the M&S chocolate coated cherries. The mini cheese selections are a winner too. It really depends on her tastes but you can’t really go wrong with M&S treats.

Their little cheese platters for around £7/8 are nice. Get the Spanish one as the French ones might have to be eaten too quickly.

Mulledjuice · 06/09/2025 20:20

Welsh cakes are good for that sort of thing. I second florentines.

Such a lovely idea. Often when grieving people can’t face proper food and tend to graze. I like the idea of cheese scones (if so maybe some chutney to go with it), but I’d also enjoy plain or sultana scones to go with your jam).
If they do jars or tins of pate (rather than fresh that would neee to be eaten quickly), , that and some crackers
If she is receiving lots of visitors, maybe biscuits and a fruit cake slab (can’t be specific as I rarely shop at M&S )

Blingismything · 06/09/2025 22:07

I’d go tea, coffee, Belgian biscuits and a cake.
