Dh had a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy yesterday. He had both two years ago and received midazolam and fentanyl and didn't feel anything and can't really remember the procedure.

According to his procedure notes, he received the same dosage yesterday and he's also a stone lighter this time. He says he definitely wasn't sedated and remembered and felt everything. He says it was uncomfortable. He received some spray for the back of his throat apparently. Dh is a sensible and intelligent person and is not on any sedative or painkilling medication in everyday life.

I'm somewhat suspicious that he didn't actually receive the sedation. What do others think?

When i had my gastroscopy, I opted for the spray as I had to drive home and couldn't be sedated

They explained that it would be very uncomfortable and they'd be holding me down.

They held me down and I was physically struggling, and my body was trying to push the tube out. They were calming me and talking me through it. It was painful and that was the typical experience

I think he'd definitely know if he wasnt x

I got the sedative and I remember some discomfort.

i’m told it’s fucking painful if you don’t get the sedative.

I had sedation for a colonacopy and remember absolutely nothing, but a friend has had one with sedation and was conscious, but drowsy, for it.

I think it depends on the dose on the day. If he lets the team know they can knock him out next time, if it's safe to do so.
