Another TV licence one

Hi all, I just got a letter through saying an email address linked to my house has been used to watch iPlayer in recent weeks. It doesn't say what the email address is.

I don't watch iPlayer or live TV. I barely have time to watch my Netflix subscription.

We have lived here for 8 years, but still get debt collection letters for the previous owners, despite returning them to sender. I'm wondering if they have used one of their email addresses previously linked to my home.

i've already completed the declaration that we don't watch anything that needs a licence. I really don't need the stress of expecting them to turn up and check at any moment, or court or anything else.

My question is should I contact the BBC and discuss further, or should I ignore and expect some scary person turning up at the door?

They need the money to pay their huge salaries. My friend was seeing someone years ago who drove detector vans. He confirmed they are a load of rubbish with nothing in them.
Edited to add that the old TV detector vans in the 1950s COULD detect the cathode rays given out by the old televisions and pinpoint who was watching without a licence. When these became obsolete , there was no possible way of detection. It's fear mongering & psychological tactics to get people to cough up.

Thanks everyone! You're all right - it's completely unfair that they harass people. I'm sure it's a "legit" message as it was a letter addressed to me with the correct website link printed on it, but as I say, I've completed the declaration and will absolutely stand my ground if they decide to come and annoy me at home.

Wouldn't even know what programmes BBC make these days, let alone bother to watch them on iPlayer!

Thanks for the reassurance :)
