Would you leave engineers in your house alone?

I’m getting a new boiler fitted today. Including the removal of the old boiler, it’s a big job. They arrived at 8am this morning and will be here all day. 2 engineers.

am I ok to pop out and run errands? I have parcels to post and I’ll have to get my son from school at 3, he also has the dentist at 4.

do engineers expect the homeowner to stick around? So far I’ve just been keeping out their road in the livingroom

I pop out if it’s a local firm that has come highly recommended and that I’ve met before the actual day of the job. But two random people that I’ve never met I think I’d probably stay at home

Icanttakethisanymore · 01/09/2025 11:11

I'd go out

madaboutpurple · 01/09/2025 11:20

I would prefer to be out and let them do their job.

FuzzyWolf · 01/09/2025 11:25

Presumably they are a recommended and reputable company so I would go out and do whatever was necessary.

noidea69 · 01/09/2025 11:28

wasnt there a thread recently where the OP was convinced the guy replace the boiler had stolen her knickers out of the drawer? missed the outcome of that thread.

So yeah, go out, but lock your knicker drawer.

alwayshungryhippo · 01/09/2025 11:28

Workmen tend to start early and finish early, so I’d check with them before heading off to the dentist

dogcatkitten · 01/09/2025 11:30

I would only go out if I had to. I would want to keep an eye on what they were doing anyway, it's surprising how things can go sideways if you aren't available if there's a (seemingly simple) decision to make.

BlondeCircus · 01/09/2025 11:39

I would make sure that I was at home
