What to do/see in Paris? (Not my first trip)

DH and I are off to Paris next month. I've been several times before but not since about 2018 so was after recommendations for anything new/different to do.

I've been to most of the big museums and galleries - Louvre, Orsay, Orangerie, Moyen Age - as well as landmarks like St Chapelle and the Conciergerie so I won't necessarily be wanting to revisit those unless there's a particularly good exhibition on. And I've been to areas like Montmarte, the Marais, the Grand Boulevards and the Latin Quarter, though no doubt I'll revisit those as the LQ is probably my favourite part of Paris!

Have you been to the Musée Rodin? I really liked it, the garden is a tranquil oasis.

CakeKiller · 31/08/2025 14:44

Yes, I've been there. The first time I went, I got a 3 day museum pass and spent all my time in museums and galleries!

I've still not been up the Eiffel Tower but tbh its never appealed. I prefer the view from Sacre Couer where you can see the tower itself.

The reopened Notre Dame is on my list but that's about the only must-see I have!

I havent been to the catacombs or Jewish museum so I'll add those to the list. We stayed on Rue Mouffetard the last couple of times we went but I'd love to go back as it is foodie heaven!

The view from the Montparnasse Tower is the best in all of Paris in my opinion, if you haven’t been. Go for lunch or dinner and ask for a window table.

Catacombs!

Train out to Versailles if the weather is nice?

Denim4ever · 31/08/2025 15:09

Picasso Museum
Cinematheque (at Bercy) has great exhibitions
Markets - there's a great cheese market somewhere

Canal St Martin/ de l'Ourcq

If you like the Latin Quarter, walk up behind it to Montagne Ste Genevieve and the Pantheon. Rue du Mouffetard and Place de Contrescarpe are lovely. The Grande Mosquee de Paris (wonderful hamam, but it's sex segregated obviously and I think it's women only nowadays) and Jardin des Plantes are nearby.

Place Tino Rossi on the Seine, where all the tango dancers go.

The flea market at St Ouen/ Clignancourt at weekends.

Museum wise, I have Musee de Quai Branly and the Institut de Monde Arabe on my list.

Worth checking if there's any interesting exhibitions on, even if you've "done" the museum.
Also second the trip out to Versailles, the palace itself but also the town is lovely to wander around, as is the Potager du Roi (now used by the agricultural college as a historical and innovative garden, check for tours if you speak French)

Was there last month and the queue to go into Norte dame was massive so we passed. We went to a burlesque performance which was a laugh, and also went to the David Hockney exhibition at the foundation LV which was amazing. Fantastic building too.

The Picasso museum was closed on Mondays when we tried to go (annoying!)

personally I love just mooching around, people watching and walking through the lovely parks. It’s not a cheap city to visit though!

I second this. The view is incredible. I didn't eat there but worth a couple of hours for the view.

Another vote for the catacombs if you’ve never been. Arrête! C'est ici l'empire de la Mort!

I go often as my husband frequently works in Paris. I’m all museum and galleried out, and I’m not interested in shopping. But we do love to eat out.

Not expensive, but great - Bistrot Victoires, Fana Montmartre, L’Oiseau Blanc (for the views but a bit more wedgy).

I love to do long walks. Île de la Cité and Saint-Germain-des-Prés with its beautiful church are two of my favourites.

If you want something a bit different there is also the Arabic Institute which had a varirty of exhibitions. They also have a cafe and restaurant on the top floor with fabulous views.
