Do you think my teen should retake science GCSE?

I don't know whether to encourage my child to resit the Double Science GCSE, having got grades 3/2 at the end of y11.

Successfully got a 7 in English a 5 in maths and three other passes at grades4&5 so meets the minimum for basic employment of having 5 GCSEs at grades 4+ (but I am aware that some employers specify grades 5+). Has no interest in studying science beyond GCSE.

How much impact do you think it will have on a future (non-science) career to improve on these GCSE results with a resit a year later in Double Science (there are no Autumn resits for science but I have reason to believe that 5/5 is entirely possible and would be easy to combine with college course. Avoiding adding an extra paragraph to explain why for simplicity of OP) or will the (non-A-level but A-Level equivalent) diploma college qualification supercede any GCSE grades such that it's pointless trying to improve them?

IME with my older ones in the last 8 years, the only grades anyone has cared about is maths and English. I wouldn’t bother.

They went on to do level 3 qualifications and degree apprenticeships.

They didn’t bother with A levels, it was all about the UCAS points, so just did the “easiest” level 3 equivalent to get the most possible to get on to the degree apprenticeships they wanted - no one cared what they did, they just wanted the UCAS points to get on it, and all they cared about what that they had above level 4 in maths and English.

I really wouldn’t worry.

Absolutely pointless trying to improve them.

Science resists will be next summer, it’s only Maths & English in November.

Does he want to be a teacher? You do need GCSE science for that. But it is any GCSE science so he could do just biology (or which ever one he is best at).

No don’t make the effort my DS has a degree in Astrophysics, but science is an odd subject. He is just this month changing to a finance job. Maths and English are the important ones. Plus languages too of course.
