Cleaning the bath - there has to be something better

Help! What do you clean your bath with? 4 nights a week DH and DS are doing a sport that involves being barefoot on a filthy floor (and the shower is over the bath) so I blame them, but our bath is a nightmare to clean. I use decreasing kitchen spray with a sponge/scrubby thing which takes ages and a lot of elbow grease. I don't mind if that's what it takes, but years from now if someone tells me there was a miracle product/technique that everyone else knew about I'm going to be spitting feathers 😁

Ours never seems to get dirty. Must be the material.

I think I'd add enough hot water to cover the worst of the dirt and let it soak, maybe with bleach? Then a cream cleaner like cif.

EmpressaurusKitty · 29/08/2025 19:58

Have you tried a scrubbing brush? Or better yet getting them both into the habit of cleaning the bath straight after use?

Keroppi · 29/08/2025 19:58

Method daily shower spray

Also some people use these small mop things. I use one for tiles

Cif cream cleaner and a scrub daddy sponge usually works here

MotherofPearl · 29/08/2025 20:00

Cif and a non-scratch scourer. Rinse well.

Yesterdaytodaytomorrowagain · 29/08/2025 20:01

If it’s that bad, why don’t you get them to pop their feet in a basin to take off the worst before they get in the shower!

Came on to say this, can’t they give it a scaring and spray while they are in there? I find flash bathroom is good.

Dabberlocks · 29/08/2025 20:01

They are making it filthy. It is their job to clean it.

By the way, the best time to clean a bath is while it is still warm and wet and you have literally just got out of it, so spray all round with some bathroom cleaner and whizz round with a cloth or a sponge, then rinse off.

shiningstar2 · 29/08/2025 20:01

There is a new fairy liquid being advertised which claims it can deal with any kitchen washing up without soaking. Guaranteed apparently to clean anything. You could try using that for the bath. Can't hurt 🤔

ObliviousCoalmine · 29/08/2025 20:06

Why can they not wipe it down when they’ve made it filthy? Why are you the scullery maid?

tripleginandtonic · 29/08/2025 20:06

Cream cleaner, ajax

Here4the · 29/08/2025 20:08

Run the shower head round it to rinse then every so often full it with hot water and bleach then let it sit for a few hours before washing it off again.

Gliblet · 29/08/2025 20:10

Have tried a scrubbing brush - doesn't seem to work any better than a sponge - but I will definitely give cream cleaner a go and yes, I may try the new Fairy stuff and see if that works.

And yes I could make them do it but they're actually pretty good. At 13 DS does the washing and drying up several nights a week, makes his own dinner if he's hungry and we're late back from work, feeds and clears up after the dog and is happy to do laundry. DH is similarly useful without needing prompting or instruction so it's not like I'm wearing myself to a shadow of dutiful servitude. It's just the one job that always feels like it's taking 10 times longer than it needs to if that makes sense? You expect cleaning something like the oven to take ages but everyone else seems to talk about 'just giving the bathroom a quick once over' so I was starting to feel like I must be missing something.

What is the sport, please

tedibear · 29/08/2025 20:11

Scrub daddy sponge and the pink stuff paste. It would probably be easier for them to do it as they shower, once they are clean obvs.

Surely the best thing is that THEY wash their own filth they left in the bath. Not you. Which product to use can be also be researched and chosen by them.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 29/08/2025 20:13

Why not put a non-slip shower mat in the bath for them to stand on? Then you can put this into the washing machine. If you've got several you can even change them every day.

Chazbots · 29/08/2025 20:14

I put neat ish Fairy Liquid around the top of the bath. I leave it drip down overnight & then use a large flannel to wash it off.

Very shiny bath.

Two different forms of martial arts practiced barefoot in a school hall. I used to do the same classes, your feet are black by the end of them. And yes before anyone says it in an ideal world the school would make sure the floor was washed and dried in the 30 minutes between the school day ending and the first class of the evening starting but in the real world that ain't happening.
