TFL bus travel for 11 year old

Please can anyone tell me about fares for an 11 year old on a TFL bus? DC is almost 12 and is unlikely to pass for 10…
i see that this age group can travel free with a zip card? But we don’t have one - but I can’t see what child fares are- and how to pay them. I will be using contactless but I seem to remember it doesn’t like tapping in for multiple people?
what do we do?

If you are UK based it may be worth getting a 11-15 zip card if you want to come to London again.
If you don’t want to then you can get a Visiter Oyster card, and then go to a Visitor Centre (there is one at London Liverpool St) with your child and they will endorse it for child pay as you go fares for 2 weeks, and that gives a 50% discount to the adult fare.

If you’re likely to be coming into London more than once over the years they’re aged 11-15 I’d get them a zip card. Buses are free, trains and tubes reduced.

Thanks - yes I realise we need a zip for next time - and I see there is. Visitor card - but we are nowhere central to pick one up. We need to get buses in the far end of Zone 6!

No one will question you, I have travelled with my tall 14 year old when he's forgotten his zip card.

The adult fare daily price cap is £5.25 so if you can use a different contactless card for your child then it's still not that expensive.
If it's a one off trip then don't faff around with Visitor Oyster cards or a Zip card - because it costs more than £5.25 to get the cards in the first place.
