For those who support (or who have contributed to) the flags/protests

Do you know anything about the rise of fascism in the early-mid 20th century?

Does it bother you?

Do you think the nazis were right?
Do you see yourself/your family as being like them?

Not being goady.
Genuinely curious

What are flag protests?

Planesmistakenforstars · 27/08/2025 04:17

I'm not in the target group for your questions, but I don't really see many parallels between the rise to power of the Nazis and the protests in the UK, and I think it is really unhelpful to frame it in this way. It's its own (terrifying) thing and should be discussed in its own context without resortig to this lazy comparison.

ViciousCurrentBun · 27/08/2025 07:49

Be careful @Planesmistakenforstars you are showing very good critical thinking skills which are severely lacking in the general population. I agree and thanks for writing such a succinct post.

Really?

A cult of personality around Farage, “othering” people (at the moment it’s immigrants, but it’ll soon spiral - he’s set his sights on LGBT people and women’s rights), wanting to remove us from the ECHR, all sorts of suggestions bandied around including camps.

It’s fucking terrifying.

Menopausalsourpuss · 27/08/2025 07:58

The only "facists" I see in the UK are the far left/gullible middle class people who support them. They are the ones making Jews feel unsafe with their aggressive "Palestine" marches and flags and trying to suppress free speech with their "islamaphobia" laws, arresting people praying etc. Ive also noticed recently they always accuse others of things that they themselves are guilty of.

2dogsandabudgie · 27/08/2025 07:59

Are you saying that every single person who has been protesting is far right? What an ignorant comment and shows just how little you understand of the whole situation.

Dunnocantthinkofone · 27/08/2025 08:00

Writing ‘not being goady’ at the end of your post doesn’t make it less goady 🙄

Being anti-Zionist is not the same as being anti-Semitic.

There are no “anti-Islamophobia” laws.

They have arrested people who harass women at abortion clinics who have violated PSPOs, and they know that they have done so.

  1. Semantics don't matter if it makes Jews feel unsafe - I'm sure Hitler supporters tried to rationalise their behaviour.
  2. The Labour govt have working group on bringing in an islamophobia law - you need to do your homework.
  3. Wrong again. People like Isabel Vaughn spruce have been addressing for standing still and praying, other women arrested for holding a sign saying "here to talk, if you want" outside abortion clinics. Neither of those are harassing anyone and IVB has been found not guilty several times.

  1. many Jews are against what Israel is doing. Therefore, are you saying they are similar to Nazis?

  3. they are violating PSPOs. You can make it seem like religious freedom is being curtailed but the reality is, they’re making women who are exercising their right to autonomy over their bodies feel unsafe. I’m sure supporters of hitler tried to justify their actions (see how silly that line sounds?)
MadiMooMoo · 27/08/2025 08:12

Would you class yourself as left leaning op? The reason I check is because the contents of your post suggests yes. So apologies if im wrong!

However, I find people on the left of political opinion think they are liberal and SO GOOOOOD that everyone else with a different opinion must be challenged and changed and other opinions cant POSSIBLY be right. Isn't that something when they call other fascists...

Keep going!! Thanks to people like you with the constant narrative that anyone who wants controlled immigration or pride in their country is wrong, the right has found its voice and not afraid to use it!!!
Ill have pride in what my country managed to achieve before it went to shit thanks. Ill hope it can return back to that one day. Ill continue to argue uncapped and uncontrolled illegal migration needs to stop. Ill review any proposal for replacement of the ECHR if that means we can turn people back who have crossed through MULTIPLE safe countries to reach Britian.

Yeah, Dave from #5, duct taping the George's Cross to his upstairs bedroom window, is EXACTLY the same as the rise of the Nazis.

Do you support those that call for the flags to be taken down?

Do you understand that taking these flags down will make those that you claim are fascists not only a voice but one with the weight of truth behind it?

Do you not understand that by continuing this stereotype and the patronising way that you are doing it will add people to the ranks of those that you despise?

Do you not understand that by just taking down the flags and not listening to the views of those doing it, you lose the chance for them to understand you and you to understand them?

Do you not understand that by leaving the flags of other nations up (especially those put up in protest) and have caused offense, you are saying that people cannot be proud of their nation like other people in other countries are allowed and encouraged to be and makes them feel less?

And Finally do you not understand that this is off the back of so many things that have been allowed to build up by those in power it is inevitable.

And its also getting to stage where fascist is being used so often and for the wrong things that it is starting to lose its meaning.

Having pride in your country and wanting controlled immigration do not make you far right.

What makes them far right is vandalising their public spaces instead of doing something worthwhile to improve their communities, and after vandalising things like zebra crossings hanging around to take pictures of Muslim women crossing and posting the pictures online with vile captions.

Underthinker · 27/08/2025 08:22

I'm indifferent to the flags.
I think some people see fascism everywhere. I used to get most of my news from the guardian, and there's an element there that used to love making these checklists to prove that May/Johnson/Sunak etc matched all the criteria for fascism.

What has genuinely changed recently, rightly or wrongly, is anti immigration sentiment. But I think calling everything fascist feeds that rather than combats it.

xanthomelana · 27/08/2025 08:22

There’s been lots of protests that have happened over the last few years that I don’t necessarily agree with but I just go on with my day because it’s our right to protest as long as it’s peaceful (which to me just putting up a flag is) and we are lucky that we live in a country where such things are allowed because lots of people are oppressed in other countries.

I don’t try to lecture others whose opinions are not the same as mine because who am I to say mine is right and they are wrong?

Dunnocantthinkofone · 27/08/2025 08:23

Seriously what did the left leaning think was going to happen? Those with concerns about mass migration have been labelled as racists, bigots and now apparently nazis for literally decades
Failure to address legitimate concerns and to squash all conversation on the topic is the direct cause of the protests. But the left are too stupid to realise that shouting people down will only create a pressure cooker situation

I have to go to work so haven't got time to link in about proposed islamophobia law but Google is your friend!

100%
Its become such, however that anyone who is right leaning is now FAR RIGHT, in accordance to anyone on the other side who cant abide differing opinions or points of views on things so resort to throwing out extremes like Facist

Thirteencats · 27/08/2025 08:36

You know when the posters defining woman as female human adult went up and transactervists described it as a hate campaign? It kind of proved the point that trans ideology was hostile to women existing as their own defined class.

If putting up England flags is seen as hateful then it does prove the point of the protesters that there is hostility to English culture (and people?) in our political climate. It needs a more thought through response than 'they are all fascists'
