I work for company A paid £65k

I had an interview for company B paying £85k.

Both jobs are virtually identical, different timelines on the tasks required, but overall not much difference.

I really respect and like my current boss, but.... 20kpa.....?

How do I work out what's the best option?

Take the 20k. If you really like where you work, go and see your current boss before you hand in your notice and have a chat. Say that it all came about via a chance conversation, but that it has ended up in an offer and ask whether there is anything they can do as you would really like to stay, but 20k. Work out what you would accept to stay.

Otherwise, that is a fairly hefty pay rise and most people I know (including me) have improved their salary by moving company.

Do you prefer WFH? How far are the offices?

Is there anything about company B that's secretly making you unsure?

WhichJobToTake · 26/08/2025 21:34

Company A - about 45 /60 each way

I like wfh

I think the main thing that's holding me back is how much I like my current boss.

You need to remember your boss could leave at any time! Don’t stay for one person. Go for 20k!

slipperypenguin · 26/08/2025 21:40

100% job B

fivetriangulartrees · 27/08/2025 07:35

Then go for job B, keep in touch with your boss and encourage them to come and join you when they get the chance. Good luck!

StMarie4me · 27/08/2025 07:38

Job B. Your current boss could quit tomorrow.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/08/2025 07:48

Your boss could leave at any time, or change under a restructure… don’t stay there just for that. You must have gone for the interview for a reason? It sounds like a good next step and a very good payrise, if you’re happy with mostly wfh then go for it. New boss might be lovely too.

Thank you for your posts!

I guess you are all right, I can't stay with company A based on my boss
