What age for Book of Mormon?

Florally · 25/08/2025 10:11

I want to book and take my kids (teens) to a show around Christmas.

I saw Book Of Mormon probably 10 years ago and in my head it’s a 16 plus, but my DH says our kids will be fine.

I’m just looking for a sense check really, would you take younger teens to the show?

I’d say from 16+ too - if you’ve seen it you know what it’s like and can make a judgement. Our youngest was 18 when we went with our DC (dh and I had seen it years ago). Do you want young teens knowing about a magical fuck frog?!

princesspadam · 25/08/2025 10:25

I would say 16+ too
although my 15 year old would be fine

Smartiepants79 · 25/08/2025 10:28

16+ it is hilarious and brilliant but has some very adult themes.
With any kids under the age of 16 I’d choose something else. I’m not entirely sure that they’d get why it was funny either. A lot of it might be wasted on them.

Another vote for 16+, quite a few “oof” moments (sex with babies cures aids as an example)

Loved Book of Mormon but I’d be mortified to see it with my parents, and I’m CONSIDERABLY older than 16! Won’t you or them be squirming in your seats at witnessing it together? Or is this just a me thing?

Needlenardlenoo · 25/08/2025 10:35
  1. It's very, very rude!!
LeonMccogh · 25/08/2025 10:35

I agree, I’m not sure it’s appropriate for teens and parents to attend together!

Coffeeishot · 25/08/2025 10:37

I think its 14+ for tickets anyway, I bought tickets for a gift and im sure it said 14+

Coffeeishot · 25/08/2025 10:43

I know people love it but I hated it and couldn't wait for it to finish Dd was my lift home or I probably would have left in the interval.

duckydoo234 · 25/08/2025 11:02

I've seen it several times. I'm taking my 14-year-old in a few months, but I did have to think long and hard about that. She's pretty grown up and will see the funny side of the shock moments, but unless I knew other kids I wouldn't recommend under 16. It's not really about the age, it's the person and the fear of offending - it's the funniest thing I've ever seen, but accept that some people could be absolutely horrified by some of the content.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 25/08/2025 11:16

Mine have recently seen and loved Hamilton, Six and we've got Operation Mincemeat booked coming up.

Book of Mormon is one I want to go and see - and in another year or so I'd probably consider taking at least the eldest child but she's got the ability to appreciate the nuances behind the crude stuff in it, the other child, who is close in age - she'd just be horrified - that's her personality and level of emotional maturity.

In short - depends on the teen.
With my kids - also depends on how financially ruined you want to be at the merch stand as well (£100 on Hamilton hoodies for the pair of 'em... plus mine - since I'd slimmed out of my previous one - oof)

Chewbecca · 25/08/2025 11:17

No, wait until older. It's hilarious (IMO) but the most X rated I have seen.

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 25/08/2025 11:18

What age teens? It’s a brilliant musical but it talks about fucking God in the eye and what not might be a bit much for younger teens.

Igmum · 25/08/2025 12:54

It officially says 14+. I know this because I saw it not long before DD’s 14th and I’m very rule following so didn’t take her. She made she she went when it came back a year or so later and loved it. 14 is fine.

itispersonal · 25/08/2025 13:00

We took our 12 year old she really enjoyed it. It’s a good musical and a funny story, some of things she got, other bits she didn’t!

That my 12 year old favourite song, though she is anti god!

NuffSaidSam · 25/08/2025 13:04

I'd say 14+ depending on the child. If they watch South Park/Family Guy etc they're probably going to 'get it' in a way that they wouldn't if their TV viewing is more wholesome.

Operation Mincemeat is an excellent alternative if you haven't seen it.

itispersonal · 25/08/2025 13:04

I would rather take her to Book of Mormon than rocky horror which a few of her theatre friends went to!

The age on the tour when we saw it earlier this year was guidance 16. When the stewards asked her age we said 15 and are aware of South Park/ expectations of the show!

Try https://officiallondontheatre.com/tkts/

You can quite often get reduced price tickets. Tickets go on sale at 12:01 am.

MyElatedUmberFinch · 25/08/2025 21:24

16, I loved it!

FleaDog · 25/08/2025 21:34

Depends how wordly wise your teens are op.

Would you let them watch South Park / Family Guy? If so, they will probably enjoy it.

There is the outragous shock factor elements but also so.e good subtler homour... if they are relying on the brash shock actor humour to see the show they may get bored... ("You're making things up again Arnold, you're taking the holy book and adding fiction")

Plus, the show is so well known that whrn we last went the audience shouting and cheering really spoiled it and you miss a lot of the lyrics and lines - just to be aware of this. One of my dc had to get some old earphones from my bag and wear them to limit the noise.

Wolfpa · 25/08/2025 21:37

Try them on a couple of episodes of South Park first to see how they react.

Anyone reading this please don’t think they have sec with babies in the show!!!

Florally · 25/08/2025 23:15

I have seen the show 😂 (though a decade ago)

I know it’s crazy which is why I thought 16 plus… but DH thought these days 13/14 year olds would be unbothered by the content.

NoKidsSendDogs · 26/08/2025 12:39

Your kids have 100% seen worse than book of Mormon already. It's quite tame imo. I agree with your dh.
