Where would you go if you had about a week and hire car. Planning for summer 2026.
I’ll be with my older teenagers/ young adults.
I have been to Belfast.
Cork looks great.
Thank you!

Fly to Shannon and do Galway/Mayo on the Wild Atlantic way. Galway is a fabulous city

Cork is lovely then drive up to Co Kerry.

Sorry I read that as you having been to Cork so I suggested an alternative. Cork is also a great city. You can’t go wrong really.

Yes, I second this.

And get a jaunting cart around Killarney National Park!

I think anywhere along the west coast will be beautiful. I'd recommend Achill or the Ring of Kerry but you can't really go too wrong along the wild Atlantic way.

If you prefer the east coast, the Wicklow mountains are beautiful as well. Glendalough is my favourite place in the world!

Fly into Cork stay a night or two in the city . (For your kids age rent a boat around Cork Harbour or visit Spike Island leaving from Cobh)
Pick up your car then and you have two options east or west.
East it's an hour and half to Waterford, lovely Greenway there if you like cycling and lots of beaches with water sports, maybe surfing in Tramore or kayaking in Dunmore East. Museums in the city are worth a mooch if you like history and accommodation is not expensive. From there you could get the car ferry across to Wexford and go for a spin ro Loftus Hall (very freaky story) or Hook lighthouse. Great fish and chips around Kilmore
Quay

If you want to head West down to West cork there is beautiful beaches and towns, Bere Island and Garnish Island are a lovely day out , Allihes back is heaven. You could also head over to Dingle (expensive to stay in) for a couple of nights and drive out around Slea head looking out to the Blasket Islands. If any of your party have a head for heights Skellig Michael is famous
