Apology plums?

Yesterday, one of our neighbours came over to speak to me - she wanted to apologise if she was “rude to my friend.”

The friend in question isn’t my friend, she’s my partner’s ex wife, and the neighbour wasn’t rude - she was blocking her drive to asked her to move.

I thanked her for coming over but said there was no need to apologise because she wasn’t rude at all, so please not to worry.

Today. She’s brought us a bag of plums off her tree. Never done that before, so we’re assuming it’s linked to the totally unnecessary apology.

Will fruit keep arriving until she’s forgiven herself for something she didn’t do? Are we supposed to return the favour - because I don’t have any fruit growing?

Help me understand the etiquette and next steps 😂.

Did anyone else read the thread title and think of William Carlos Williams? 😁

I’d never heard of him - like the OP’s plums, an unexpected pleasure. Thanks!Smile

She needs an excuse to offload her plums. Every year I have too many.

I am at the point of shoving courgettes through strange letterboxes. When you have a lot you do you a bit crazy

An acquaintance keeps shoving cucumbers through my gate.

I've given away almost 14lbs of plums this year and still had 28lbs to make into jam and chutney.
The tree isn't empty yet. It's been a busy year for fruit.

Enjoy the plums. Nothing beats good English plums in season👍😉
