Sara Davies and Dragons' Den

I just walked by Crafters Companion and see it's closed down and a note in the window saying it's gone into administration. Is this why she's stepping back from Dragons' Den?

Doubt it
She will have other strings in her bow
If she’s stepping back it’s because she’s been dropped by the programme makers or she’s left for her own reasons

Probably. I've never even heard of Crafters Companion. Didn't even know they had a high street presence. She's rubbish on DD. None of the contestants want her, so she always picks the crappest pitches. I'm glad she's gone.

I love Deborah. I used to love the lady with shiny black hair who said 'you're making my foot itch'. Hillary Devay. She passed away a while ago. 😞

Deborah is my favourite dragon.

Likely. She specifically said her business needed more of her input so she was stepping away.

I went off her when someone had a great product and they sourced the raw materials in the UK. She was all "No, I'll change that to importing from China to boost your profit margin". Short term greed.

Ooh, that's disappointing.

It's one reason why I don't like Touker: because no matter what kind of ethical principles somebody comes along with - even if it's their USP - he's instantly thinking about how he can reduce prices and increase profits by outsourcing to a Chinese factory.

I get that business is like that to an extent, but I personally would much prefer to run an ethical business that makes a decent profit, rather than one that may be exploitative and lowest common denominator in its core day to day running and make an obscene profit.

According to a BBC news article from a few months ago, Sara actively decided to wind up the business, as it was on a downward financial trajectory, rather than being forced into desperate measures.
