Amanda Knox

I see there is another Amanda Knox series out on Hulu/Disney. I've always followed the case closely. But I have mixed feelings. At first I thought Amanda was involved in the murder but as time has gone on, there isn't a shred of proof (from a DNA pov) against her. But should she continue to make money from the case? I feel deeply sorry for Meredith's family. As her sister Stephanie said, Meredith is the 'forgotten victim' in this. I understand she did spend 4 years behind bars and wants to be vindicated - and she does help other innocent victims who have been jailed - but I feel it's too much now and that Meredith is being lost in it all. What do you think?

I can’t remember the name of my uni flatmate who lived in the 3rd bedroom for 6 months and always ate my bacon. Barely clapped eyes on her. I’d still have been devastated if she’d been murdered in our home at the time

Edited

Would you be able to talk about your memories of her repeatedly, with great feeling, 17 years later though? Because the PP was complaining that Amanda doesn’t talk about her memories of Meredith enough on Twitter. There’s only so many times you can say ‘she left hair everywhere’.

But her behaviour brought her to the attention of the police, which otherwise would not have happened had she acted as any normal person would have done in this situation. Immediately after Meredith’s death, she was doing gymnastics/cartwheels in the police station, and being overly affectionate/touchy/acting inappropriately with her BF. So obviously it did raise suspicions about whether she was involved.

How she acted WAS normal.

Shock does strange things to a person.

It’s fine if she came to the attention of the police. In fact police should always look at those who were close (in proximity) to the victim in a murder. But the fact that they used that to build their WHOLE case against her -in the face of ACTUAL forensic evidence and the fact someone else entirely had been convicted of her murder - is what makes this disturbing. If they hadn’t been so determined she was the killer despite not a jot of evidence, none of us would know her name. Her notoriety is entirely on the shitty misogynistic justice system in Italy, not AK herself

No I didn't know her dad at all as they were divorced and he lived far away from them.

Yet after she died, i showed empathy to her father.

Amanda showed no empathy even before she was accused of murdering Meredith

Did you show empathy from the cell where you were falsely accused of murdering her? Or from somewhere else?

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 21/08/2025 22:30

Applebun · 21/08/2025 21:54

I saw the photos.

It looked like a large amount of blood to me!

I have had loads of female flatmates over the years. Not one of them has left period blood all over the bathroom floor. Nobody does that

Edited

God yes absolutely loads here.
A <checks notes> large amount of blood “all over the bathroom floor”. Can barely see anything for all the red Hmm

Amanda Knox
ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 21/08/2025 22:31

And I had female flatmates and there’d be blood now and again. It happens.

Applebun · 21/08/2025 22:15

I don't know. I remember living with girls at Uni in a house.

Even if i didnt know them that well, If one of them had been murdered in the house, I think i would have reacted with more empathy and kindness.

And if i spoke about her years later, i would still speak about it with more kindness tham she did.

Once again - you’d have no idea how you’d react, especially face with an accusation of murder.

AK does speak with kindness - can you point to (something that actually happened) where she was unkind?

AngularMerkin · 21/08/2025 22:34

I just started watching the Disney series and feel the whimsical, Amelie-style production is seriously distasteful given the subject matter of poor Meredith’s murder. Awful for her family to have it all dredged up again.

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 21/08/2025 22:35

SomeOfTheTrouble · 21/08/2025 22:17

Exactly. She lost 4 years of her life after a huge miscarriage of justice, she lost her chance of ever having a normal life/career, but apparently she has committed the huge crime of being unlikeable, and odd, so she should just accept her fate.

She should just go back to Italy and beg them to imprison her. Being odd and unlikeable is a capital offence for a woman. You have to #bekind all the time about the woman you didn’t kill.

Isnt it interesting how nobody ever complains that Meredith Kercher’s ACTUAL killer never says kind things about her, never takes responsibility or shows remorse.

Its almost like being an odd unlikable woman is worse than being a man who murders.

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 21/08/2025 22:37

Applebun · 21/08/2025 22:22

I know too many women that were murdered, now I think of it. Three.

A girl I went to school with in primary school was murdered.
A girl I knew as a teenager was murdered.
A woman in my town, I knew to say hello to, was murdered.
I also know a woman who was kidnapped by a serial killer and escaped. This sounds too mad to be true when I write it, but sadly it is very true.

It is a violent world out there.

And yet you come on a thread, demonise and lie about a woman who has never killed anyone.

You’ve never once mentioned Meredith’s killer on this thread

It’s a violent world out there and also a misogynistic world. Women who don’t behave perfectly or typically or constantly to go round apologising and grieving, are lambasted

lol true!

No I wouldn’t, it would just be a very sad memory for me.

Had I been wrongly accused of killing het myself, I think I’d REALLY bore of them nutjobs constantly demanding that I express my sorrow. Amanda doesn’t owed anybody a thing re Meredith. Not one thing.

Yes, it is truly, truly horrific.
Why are we demonising the woman who didn’t commit a murder? Whose only crime is to be odd and unlikeable? Why aren’t we demonising the man who killed her?

Imperativvv · 21/08/2025 22:40

SomeOfTheTrouble · 21/08/2025 21:29

Money? She basically lost her chance of a normal life/career. She got a tiny amount of compensation for spending 4 years behind bars for a crime she didn’t commit. Her parents spent everything they had trying to defend her. Maybe she needs the money?

Yes, this really ought to be bleeding obvious.

This fucked up years of her life. That likely has physical and mental health implications. It interfered with her education. The Internet is full of gullible twats who can't let go of their belief that she did it, or at least is dodgy in some way, so she also can't get a normal job. There's always the possibility that some loon goes for her, meaning she's got to be more careful about her security and housing than the average person.

All these things are expensive!

kkloo · 21/08/2025 22:42

@Applebun Were all those women murdered by men?

The thing is, TV companies don’t need permission of people to recreate their stories. I’d much rather people who were involved had a say than not.

Excellent point.

Also there'd be a bump in interest about now because of Rudy Guede being on trial again, whatever Amanda Knox did.

Ketzele · 21/08/2025 22:54

The whole thing was an orgy of misogyny and we are still witnessing it here. The Italian police (famously corrupt) and the pre-Levenson media (ditto) went berserk and people are still quoting what they said as truth.

I don't have any opinions on Knox's likability or her behaviour at the time, as its irrelevant. I am surprised, though, that no one has mentioned that she was in the next room while her flatmate was raped and murdered. How absolutely shocking to find out that it could so easily have been you that was killed.

Given that, I would have expected relief, even exhilaration, at being alive to be one of her feelings during her long hours at the police station, along with shock, numbness, survivors guilt and distress. Which could help explain any apparent snogging or gymnastics.

About Meredith, its hardly Knox's fault if she is forgotten. Women get murdered every day and they all deserve to be remembered, but we don't. I imagine people would also be fiercely critical (especially the family) if Knox was offering "the Meredith that I knew" type interviews. Because she barely knew her, and the media hasn't been exactly chasing content on Meredith, has it?

Nyungnyung · 21/08/2025 23:02

I can’t help judging people who are daft enough to believe Amanda Knox was guilty, it really is plain old misogyny.

Almost any young woman can be made to look horribly unlikable by a hostile media - and it is really sad that so many people will lap it up and think that they can “see it in their eyes”, or some other such nonsense

Just to clarify, Meredith was alone on the house when she was murdered. AK was at her boyfriend’s house.

Good points on everything else!

On the misogyny point - people criticising AK for kissing her BF (which she did, it’s on film). Funny how her BF (also accused of murdering Meredith) doesn’t get criticised for it or called a narcissist

Ots almost like people REALLY hate women

It’s ok to admit you were wrong you know.

But I’ll await the photo where there was “large amounts of blood all over the bathroom”…funny how this large amount of blood was nowhere near the space in the photo I posted though. It must have been a localised pool of blood, as bathrooms of crime scenes often have
