Do I need to return if vinted cancelled the order and refunded?

I'm new to Vinted so never had to deal with this before. As title suggests, I bought an item on Vinted and it arrived damaged. I was out at time of delivery so I didn't see the damage to the box until I got home and saw the box left in my safe place. Anyway, item I had bought was damaged inside too so I raised the issue with Vinted and also let the seller know too. Vinted came back to me and said the item wasn't packaged properly so was the sellers fault and refunded me the full amount. Seller isn't getting compensation from Vinted.

Seller has now contacted me after a couple of days asking me to return the item and states they could repair it and resell, but on the chat with Vinted, it told me I didn't have to return the item to the seller as Vinted were refunding me the full amount.

Should I go ahead and return?

edited for typos.

As long as the seller is funding the return, I would send it back. If they expect you to pay to return it ... not a hope!

This is Vinteds downfall and what will ultimately cost them long term.
Technically no, you do not need to do anything.
Morally however is a different story. Vinted use automated bots for most things. They hide behind their packaging guidelines and use them to avoid paying out for any claims.
As they have the contract with the courier, the seller has no recourse to claim for compensation when the courier have very clearly damaged items. Vinted won’t claim so the seller is always blamed for poor packaging. It’s their standard get out of jail card.
I’ll be very surprised if Vinted is still around in a year. They are a scammers paradise and don’t protect anyone other than themselves.

I've asked Vinted and they came back and said if I do return, then vinted accept no responsibility if item is lost/damaged in transit. I'm just weary as the item in question cost £180. My husband thinks it's a scam, but the seller seems genuine...

God, £180. I can see why the seller would be very upset.

If you've had your money back from Vinted and she sends you a postage label though, what does it matter if Vinted don't want to get involved any further?

I absolutely think you should return something at that price, when you have been refunded.

Blimeyblighty · 19/08/2025 13:39

At 180 I think you should return tbh since you’ve had your money back.

Sh291 · 19/08/2025 13:42

Yeah I think you should return IF the seller pays you for shipping.

franke · 19/08/2025 13:49

I’d return it but as others have said get the seller to send you a label with proper tracking. If you’re worried about being scammed take loads of pics of the item, the package, the package on the scales etc. and hang on to your own proof of posting.

Vinted101 · 19/08/2025 14:03

Thanks, I'll get in touch with seller to arrange return.

How couldn’t it be a scam? The item has been damaged in transit, you have been fully refunded and the seller has no recourse via Vinted or the courier, and so is out of pocket to the tune of £180.
On second thoughts, does sound like a scam, but not in the way he means.
