How many miles do you drive in your car per year?

My car is two years old and I have done just over 7000 miles which is 3500 per year. The average is 7400 per year apparently so I am doing half the average.

I would usually do a lot more but no longer have a commute fortunately.

About 4000, mostly a short commute and around the city where I live. If I'm going any great distance I usually take the train.

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/08/2025 17:33

About 15000. Was 30000 a year.

I thought the average was about 12000, it certainly was the often quoted average.

Dabberlocks · 16/08/2025 17:35

Around 12k a year. Much of that is to and from work, and because we live in a one-horse town.

MikeRafone · 16/08/2025 17:36

6000

i have driven to Spain, France and Italy so that has increased the mileage

beachwalkx · 16/08/2025 17:37

About 1000 but soon to increase as stopping WFH

MikeRafone · 16/08/2025 17:38

Average annual miles has decreased by about 25% over the last 20 years. It’s how averaging around 7000

DidIdotheritething · 16/08/2025 17:38

about 10,000. Lots of hospital appointments which make up most of them.

Arlanymor · 16/08/2025 17:39

10,000 -15,000 - I travel all over Wales and most often to places that are barely/poorly/not at all served by public transport.

lljkk · 16/08/2025 17:39

Relatively low... isn't avg about 9k?
I must be 5k ish.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 16/08/2025 17:39

About 5.5k a year. I only use my car for work though.

bugalugs45 · 16/08/2025 17:40

This year a lot less due to a job change , last year was 14000, this year will be less than half that

Zippedydodah · 16/08/2025 17:41

2000? If public transport wasn’t so crappy here I wouldn’t have a car but being 8 miles from the nearest supermarket and 3 from the gp , it’s pretty essential.
I wish I could persuade DH to move to a small town on the coast or in Wales…..

Echobowels · 16/08/2025 17:41

About 12,000. Family all over the UK, whom I drive to see as trains are too expensive. I'd far prefer to take the train if it were cheaper.

budgiegirl · 16/08/2025 17:42

Around 10 000 per year. Mostly short journeys with one long journey to see family once or twice a month.

My mum though, before she gave up driving, had a car that was 13 years old and had 8000 on the clock.

Iheartmysmart · 16/08/2025 17:44

About 3k a year. I work from home so most of it is general pottering around and a few longer camping trips. My car is nearly 18 years old and has done just over 25k in total.

alwayshungryhippo · 16/08/2025 17:45

Around 2000

EssentiallyDecluttering · 16/08/2025 17:49

About 15000, mostly commuting and ferrying the teen DCs about, a few longer trips. Luckily it's an economical car.

MargaretThursday · 16/08/2025 17:53

About 8-10k a year I'd guess.
I do 20 miles a day commute, so that's 5k straight off.

intrepidpanda · 16/08/2025 17:58

15k give or take
50 miles a day for work and the occasional longer trip.

amylou8 · 16/08/2025 18:02

I'm insured for 15k, but I'm going to have to put that up next year.

Whataholiday · 16/08/2025 18:07

Yes I thought the average was 12000 miles a year but I just googled before I posted the thread and a few sources said 7000-7400.

23,000 a year just to work so easily 30-35

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 16/08/2025 18:16

35,000-ish (across 3 cars).

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 16/08/2025 18:16

Hardly seems worth having a car to do 3500 a year.

Is a good way for dealers to give you less on a trade in now. Oooo! 1 year old car, 10k miles? That’s high mileage.
