In an ideal world, what does your life look like?

I enjoy a daydream so in my ideal world I live in a cottage, cool airy and bright. No immediate neighbours, surrounded by a meadow with wild flowers and large trees.

I have runner ducks and chickens and my own walled secret garden. On a warm spring day I can take my cup of tea and sit in my garden listening to nature. No neighbour noises, no road sounds just the wish wish of the trees, the animals and the birds.

Hell to some absolute bliss for me. Anyone else?

I live in a tastefully decorated penthouse flat in Zone 1, that has air con and a doorman

I am thin

I drive a nice car, but not a showy one. Like a mini countryman

I dont have to work

I just spend my time dating men, enjoying the city, travelling

I basically want to be carrie Bradshaw 🤭

menopausalfart · 15/08/2025 16:02

A house overlooking the sea.

LupaMoonhowl · 15/08/2025 16:02

Like it is now, but with my lovely boyfriend able to arrange time with me without his (adult/married) son guilt tripping him for having a girlfriend (two years after he was sadly widowed)

Ossoduro2 · 15/08/2025 16:04

@WildFlowerBees this is what I have but there is currently a massive annoying fly buzzing around and ruining the experience. Also, my airy bright cottage in summer is also a drafty and Baltic cottage between September and May!

😁 This is an ideal world though, we can let reality ruin it!

Oh I love this! I live in a beautiful converted barn. I work 2 days a week in an interesting and challenging job, but never get emails on my days off so I’m not always catching up. We have a second home in London zone 1, a two bed apartment. My Mum is the maternal type and lives nearby and loves to babysit once a month for a weekend so DH and I can go away together. We holiday as a family once every six weeks. I’ve got a lovely group of Mum friends as well as my old friends too. I’ve got endless energy to go to exercise classes once DC are in bed. Ahhh if only!

Peaceisenough · 15/08/2025 16:19

Grr, my post was supposed to say ‘can’t’.

I hate my keyboard.

BarilynBordeaux · 15/08/2025 16:20

Oooh I love a good reality holiday!

I would no longer have my disease and would be able to go out and enjoy things more.

I would live in a little quiet flat in the city and get the promotion im angling for. I’d also have someone in my life romantically who understands me.

I know that doesn’t sound very exciting but it feels a long way away sometimes.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 15/08/2025 16:29

Ooh! I live by the sea in a white and grey boxy house IYKWIM. The kind you see on Selling Sunset. I don’t care where it is but it’s constantly 25°c and has a swimming pool.

I don’t have to work. This is the most important thing!

I have horses and both my dogs (one recently passed away in horrific circumstances) and having him back is actually the most important thing above not having to work.

I have a cleaner and a gardener and all I need to worry about is looking after my horses and dogs and practicing my pole dancing. Oh and I have a pole room to myself that I don’t have to share with DS’s gym equipment.

DS would stay exactly the same as he’s awesome and I suppose DH could come too if he must 😂. Actually, I’ll need him to earn the money to pay for my lifestyle!

Longnightmoon · 15/08/2025 16:32

Pretty much what I've got right now except I am thinner and better organised

WildFlowerBees · 15/08/2025 16:39

I like how different we all are!

I also have a tree lined long driveway with gates at the bottom so we’re properly tucked away. Either side of the driveway are fields, acres and acres. Each night I walk my herd of rescues through the meadow to the stream and we all have a splash about. Dh can never find me because I’m usually with a horse or amongst the trees.

We aren’t so secluded that Waitrose isn’t able to deliver though. 😬

I also have the most amazing chef who drops off food daily so I don’t have to spend the rest of my days asking the other adult in the house about dinner.

I'd be in an isolated house overlooking the sea and a beach. There would be a town within 10 miles with a brilliant GP surgery and a Dentist. I would have a substantial amount of money so I could live in comfort without extravagance.

ImWearingPantaloons · 15/08/2025 16:43

I am retired on a decent pension, not enormous but big enough that I don’t have to worry.

I live in a little cottage with cats and chickens, my cottage is peaceful, full of books and plants, with radio 4 on in the background.

I volunteer for cat charities, the local food bank and adult literacy which keep my days busy. I visit the theatre regularly and go out for lunch every Saturday.

Apollonia1 · 15/08/2025 16:46

Love this!
I’m in the same job, but don’t have to worry about the constant rounds of redundancies. Somehow I manage to work a 4-day week and get paid for 5 days.
I’ve less work stress, and a bit of time for me (to focus on health, exercise, grooming, seeing friends).

I’ve moved house to a do-er-upper, and now it’s all done up to my exact taste.

My kids are healthy and happy and my parents and family continue to be healthy.

Stretch goal - I’ve time for a couple of hobbies.

smallglassbottle · 15/08/2025 16:47

A little cottage, up a hill, near trees and a stream. Nearest neighbour about a mile away. Local, friendly shops. Sleepy, calm and unchanging.

My cats, a few hens and plenty of fruit trees and flowers within a walled garden. Spend time tidying, gardening and doing crafting. Only venture out to shops once a week. No traffic past cottage. Don't mind getting snowed in.

goodnightssleepbenice · 15/08/2025 16:50

what a fab question ! I would have a gardener and on call handyman for when I get an idea and want it doing immediately, obviously would have endless funds . I would do my current job 2 days a week as I love it and my colleagues are the best . I would have a holiday home in Menorca but also money for endless breaks wherever I fancied going 😀

NewBlueNoteBook · 15/08/2025 16:54

I’m very fortunate that I’m pretty content with the life I have now.

If I could nudge things over into “ideal” I would like to wake up to the house magically having been cleaned and redecorated overnight.

😁

RattyMcBatty · 15/08/2025 16:57

I live in a large bright apartment in London, that has a concierge 24 hrs a day. I also own a pretty house with amazing picture windows somewhere by the sea. I drive down there from London whenever I fancy it in my new, safe, comfortable automatic car. I don't have to worry about money, so in the winter, I can have the heating on as much as I like. I can also buy lots of lovely food from Cook to keep in my freezer.

Dexies · 15/08/2025 17:07

Love this on a Friday after work!
I have a smallholding that feeds my family. We live near the sea yet easy reach of doctor & supplies. I have a fully functioning doomsday bunker all prepped for use 😉 . My neighbours are friendly and our local village/town has community arts / music events regularly. My husband & I don’t need to work, we volunteer . My kids have happy & fulfilling employment , they live nearby .I hope in the future to enjoy looking after grandchildren in the garden.

Fairyintheforest · 15/08/2025 17:37

I've got a lovely bright and spacious country house with many acres of land surrounding it. I live with dh and the dc but we don't need to work and have plenty of savings for us and dc and independent income. We can travel whenever we fancy but enjoy spending time together at home when we can. We have friends over regularly to play games, laugh lots and catch up. In the grounds of my well decorated home I've got a herb garden, a vegetable garden, lots of flowers, an orchard, some friendly hens in their special fox proof walled garden and some donkeys roaming in their big field. The edge of our land has a large area of ancient woodland and it's the most peaceful place, filled with birds singing. The housework and organisation is all taken care of by our amazing housekeeper who we pay an excellent salary to take care of everything. We often relax outside in the various cosy outdoor seating areas- around the fire to talk all night or in the gazebo to watch the rain. The house has a big library with comfy armchairs and some of those ladders that slide along the vast bookshelves, it's where I read book after book and is the perfect place to host my book club. We get delicious meals cooked and brought to us and fresh bread and fruit delivered every day. The whole family are fit and healthy and we go horse riding and sailing together often, there's a lot of love and fun and I feel very lucky.

Oh yes, that would certainly help!

Peaceisenough · 15/08/2025 17:58

Such a lovely thread. ❤️

cheezncrackers · 15/08/2025 17:58

My life would look pretty much as it does now, although I would spend every winter in California.

Lesina · 15/08/2025 18:20

I’m a marine biologist working in Thailand, have my tech diver qualification and look ace in a wetsuit.

Selfishshellfishies · 15/08/2025 18:25

I would like a free cleaner, organiser, chef and dog walker on call.
Also a builder who would actually turn up and take money to do some work would be amazing - does this actually happen any more?
