Ugh. Turning 60 tomorrow and really bothered about it.

Sounds mad, because it’s just a number, better than the alternative etc. but I’m feeling really sick about it.

I was unhappy turning 30 because it suddenly felt adult, but I’ve sailed through turning 40 and 50 quite happily.

Has anyone else felt like this?

@Ted27

Thanks for taking the time to update. It sounds like you’ve had a really tough time but I can hear a steely determination within your post that impresses me and gives me hope on your behalf.

The rose tree flowering is a beautiful testament to your wee moggies.

I hope you have some support around you. I’m sure the tuxedo cats are charming companions. I also hope you are somewhere secure as it sounds like your illness really tipped your life upside down. Sounds like your son is a great source of pride and I’ll keep everything crossed for your continued treatment. I hope you finally have a bit of calm and find a way to navigate through your financial position.

I had a quiet birthday celebration with close family and 3 friends. I am currently on holiday and have had time for lots of reflection. You can never predict how life is going to change at any age - no one knows what’s round the corner. I’m determined to work at keeping contact with my good friends and enjoying time with them as much as I can.

Since this thread has begun, and just before I turned 60, my husband died. My perspective on life has shifted.

I'm 63 tomorrow. Come on in, the water's fine!

I went indoor skydiving for my birthday 🤣

That's fantastic @Eyesopenwideawake, happy birthday for tomorrow.

And 💐 for the posters who have had a tough year.

I am so sorry for your loss.

60 kind of past me by, I still had a teenager at home and a 20 year old at uni.
I've just made 70. I have lost 7 stone and massively improved my fitness in the last 10 years. My hope is that I can maintain, or improve, my fitness by 80. I have many friends who are leading good lives at 80.
Enjoy 60 and look forward to this next decade.

@NDReally

Hope you are having a great holiday. Absolutely nurture your friendships - you never know when you will need them.
I have wonderful friends - aka Ted's Posse who rallied round. Fortunately I paid off my mortgage 3 years ago so my home is secure. I.am just having to embrace shabby chic and ignore much needed decoration.
These are the tuxedos

Turned 60 this year too, and somehow feel very positive about it. Like I can relax and be comfortable in my own skin. Does not matter what anyone thinks. Sixty feels good. But it also seems impossible - how did that happen? I say to people, I am actually old now and no one has disagreed! I don't feel it though.

TooOrangey · 29/08/2026 23:33

One of my sisters is 60 next birthday. She’s in quite a slump about it and I get it. She says she’s in the last 3rd of her life if she’s lucky, all the good stuff is behind her and she only has people dying, getting old and decrepit ahead.

All true, but hopefully she’ll snap out of it and enjoy her dotage 😂

Every day is a blessing.

Three years ago I found a lump in my breast, still here to tell the tale 😁

4catsaremylife · 30/08/2026 00:15

I'm 63 and had a meltdown prior to my 60th, I have now made peace with it. There are many challenges in my life but being 60 is not one

NDReally · 30/08/2026 04:09

@EmeraldJeanie so sorry to hear about your husband

@Ted27 your cats are so beautiful! Thanks for the photo 😊

NDReally · 30/08/2026 04:11

@eyesopenwideawake you superwoman you! That photo made me laugh - that must have been some experience 😂

EmeraldJeanie · 30/08/2026 08:09

Thanks all for you kind words.
I find myself, now at 60, taking time more seriously. As others have said, and I have experienced, some do not make 60.

I still worry about my brain (always ditsy but worse) but am thinking how to support brain health, well being etc. I am planning to retire by end of the year but maintain/ develop current volunteer role. At present have admin overload in the background but chipping away at it very slowly. Also, lots of house issues- husband a hoarder and rest of us not minimalist! However, find myself thinking little by little with the boring sorting out stuff. I want to relax more and also spend more time with parents, family etc. Generally, be more present. I have discovered I have wonderful neighbours and also surprised at how people have cared. A wake up call at 60...

TheDogsMother · 30/08/2026 09:25

I always like to get away for my decade birthdays and do something nice. My 60th was in Biarritz and on the morning of my birthday drinking Champagne with oysters. It was fabulous.

60 years and 6 months and I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. I’m still here (obviously) with fewer body parts but have been left with even more of a desire to seize the day.

Hope you had a great day OP.
