Birthday gift ideas for DP?? Totally stuck! Allotment based??

Any ideas gratefully received!

I have his main present and one other (T-shirt) but looking for another few things. At the moment he’s really into his allotment and growing things but he has a billion books on the subject and I know nothing about plants!

not looking for anything massively expensive but I do have a reasonable budget.

TIA!

A Niwaki Hori Hori knife is a lovely gift for someone who loves gardening

Does he have a really decent hoe? (😂 sorry, had to laugh!)

These 3 edged hoes are much better than the standard garden hoe. You can get them in long handled and short handled (like the sort of hoe you need for when you are down on your knees weeding around established plants). Kent & Stowe is a decent brand.

It’s not for the allotment per se, but dh occasionally buys me (an avid gardener) a fruit tree. It’s meant over the years we’ve started to establish a fruit orchard with apples, pears and plums. You wouldn’t want to plant this in an allotment, but you can get dwarf patio trees that are happy in a large planter. We’ve given MIL a pear and a cherry. They produce huge amounts of fruit. It’s the sort of gift that keeps giving year after year.

I’ve got an allotment and seed storage that doesn’t allow humidity in a great idea.

Netting or chicken wire to stop birds and rabbits eating everything

Some lovely well rotted manure. My best present ever.

I second a niwaka hori hori, or a photo storage box from amazon for seeds. I love mine - got a massive one so I can organise by sowing month.

Isn't there some sitting around drinking tea at allotments? I'd get a flowery biscuit barrel crammed with their favourite biccies. And one of those kneeler/stool combos.

OfTheNight · 12/08/2025 15:20

When I was first dating DP I bought him a pear tree for his allotment, that went down well.

Dabberlocks · 12/08/2025 15:30

A wormery. They make fantastic compost. You can get ones that are disguised as beehives. You'd need to ask him about that though, as he may already have a decent compost set-up.

A scuffle hoe? Or I agree with the hori hori knife suggestion.

These are great on amazon - about £25

A fold up chair, good quality hand tools, knee pads, cold frame, enamel mug and plate, camping stove and kettle, water butt

Maryandherlamb · 12/08/2025 18:08

You can buy nicely wrapped fruit/olive trees from a shop called 'the present tree'. They're quite expensive though and I'm sure you could find the same quality locally for cheaper, just not presented in quite the same way.

new wellies
portable tv
wind up radio
wooden trug
A gnome or weather vein

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 12/08/2025 18:38

A really nice string dispenser with some good garden twine. You can never have too much.

BeaLola · 12/08/2025 19:04

I take it he has a shed already at allotment ?

If not it's an idea , if he has a fridge with beer, decent chair to sit on and ponder stuff

Squeezingintomyjeans · 12/08/2025 19:33

Watching with interest, my DP also has a birthday coming up and loves his allotment 🌱

rubicustellitall · 12/08/2025 19:38
