What are luxury items for a buffet?

Luxury may be a stretch but aside from your usual sandwiches, sausage rolls what would some nice buffet items be? I’m talking nice french bread with a cheese dip and picalily etc.

We did mini roat potatoes with lemon and garlic and toothpicks.
also roast new potatoes, split open with a smidge of sour cream and a dot of lumpfish caviar from lidls went down very well.
my parents did a half of salmon covered in aspic and piped mayonnaise and Black Forest. Oh the 70s!

No sausage rolls? Not even homemade ones with different fillings? I make Thai sweet chilli sausage rolls, ones with chutney, sometimes blue cheese and finely chopped apricot. Really good home made sausage rolls served warm and using sausage meat from the butcher and all butter pastry are divine.

I think luxury comes from the quality of the ingredients and the care in how they are made.

I agree with this.

luxury comes from homemaking each item rather than shop bought.
a 50 pack of sausage rolls from the blue striped stuff in Tesco is a billion miles away from as described by poster I’ve quoted.

ditto dips.

so if you want luxury - make all the items from scratch at home, that’s the difference, not what the item is
