Please tell me to get off MN and go in the pool

I sit here procrastinating every afyernoon, have done for six weeks.

our here visiting my mum with DD2 who’s 19 and doesn’t really like the sun!!

every day I sit under this beautiful gazebo reading or trawling MN.

I have a lovely pool that I can go and float around mindlessly in.
a sun lounger i can nap or read in.
all of it in silence.

but I end up sitting in the shade.

Honestly, I’ll go back home after two months here without a decent tan (particularly on my leg) as I do every year!!

But I find the pool boring 😞

DD and I will go in this evening and have a game of ting tong and a float around.

feel I’m missing a trick here.

hate sunbathing.

tell me something that might draw me into the sunlight 😂

If you don’t like sunbathing, why not just embrace it and enjoy the shade? I personally don’t like sunbathing either, so I’d be happy reading a book (or MN!) in the shade!

Given the cancer risks involved with sunbathing, I’d also be in the shade too. Enjoy it!

This is a good point.
I had a mastectomy in February followed by radiotherapy so have to be a bit cautious.

think I miss my girls being little ones and the chaos that pursued in the pool.

in those days I used to dream of an empty pool to float around in. Think secretly I’m missing being flipped from my lilo and being dive bombed by the pair of them.

happy days 😮‍💨

Get off MN and go in the pool.

There - told you 😄

but seriously if you’re happy doing what you’re doing then just do that
do you actually want to go in pool or do you just feel like you should because it’s there.

I think just because it is there.
But on the other hand I know I’ll love it if I go in, but then five minutes later I’ll be bored and want to get out 😂

I might try it in a minute before I phone DH who’s coming out next weekend and won’t leave the pool!!
(then I’ll get irrationally peeved that he’s in it all the time)

I just don’t get being a sun worshipper.

if my DD1 was out here she’d be on the roof terrace sunning herself, with regular dips in the pool.

im probably being unreasonable when I say that after almost two months of these crazy temperatures that I can’t wait to come back to UK and snuggle under my duvet 😂

One of my favourite holidays was a villa with a private pool. Because I read 7 whole books. Just knowing it was there for me to get in if I wanted to was enough! (And I did, almost every day)

It’s still 23 degrees where I am in the UK, the duvet hasn’t been out of the cupboard in months!

I totally get it though, I’m ginger, the sun isn’t my friend.

Well I’ve had two vodka and tonics so I guess it’s time to embrace the inflatables .
wish me luck 😂

Hope you had fun! 🤩

I also hate sunbathing, but sitting in a lovely gazebo sounds perfect. I'd want some exercise in the day though.

Plenty of exercise to be had here!!
we bought our manic Weimaraner over , and dealing with him and my 82 year old mother in a huge house full of steps I get plenty 😂

I did thankyou.
But much preferred my night time swim under the stars!
honestly the best part of my day is when the sun finally gives up and goes to sleep 😂

Change your mindset. Stop seeing a tan as a positive- you refer to a “decent tan”- what makes it decent? Why do you need to return home with one?

I love the shade. Book, TikTok loops, watching films. I have no desire to get any sort of tan. It looks terrible on my skin and I am high risk for skin cancer.

i prefer to go home with “decent skin”, not burned, not peeling, not dry, even colour, no strap marks.

factor 50 and a rash vest and in the pool when I get hot, but otherwise sitting in the shade is better than sitting in the sun imo.
